I have a question. Some of you people think that shops charge say 30,40,50,60 dollars an hour for labor rates. Do you have any idea what the overhead is to run a decent shop and to hire master technicians to work for you? Let me tell you a secret, any shop that charges 30 bucks an hour for a labor rate is not exactly the kind of shop I'd send my wife to. The labor rate at my shop is 90.00/hour. We are VERY competative with this as most dealers are 125/hour. You get what you pay for. If you want your car to get mis-diagnosed, go to auto zone or a 50/hr shop, that is what you are going to get. A big guess as to what is the problem with your vehicle. I guess what I am saying, pay the REAL shops with REAL techs that can REALLY diagnose your problems and in the long run, you will save lots of money. How many of you know someone that needed a brain transplant? Did you call all the local hospitals and compare prices to see who's the cheapest one to perform this? I didn't think so.

From left to right are the tachometer, speedometer, battery, and fuel gauge. All lights are out except for the right hand side of the fuel gauge only. Dimmer switch is on. Any idea what may be causing this?

sit and rev up by itself to about 3000 rpm and then drop back to about 900 rpm. Today it quit and i tried holding the accelerator to the floor and then not accellerating. It finally started when i "Pumped" the accelerator. Could it be the throttle position sensor, or does it even have one.

Is the electrical system on a F150 suitable enough for a set of high intensity bulbs...or would I need a wiring harness with a couple of relays to regulate the watts?

when i accelerate i don't have the power i used to and i hit a wall power wise about 50 mph, with the peddle to the floor. when i get out and pop the hood my fuel filter (clear) is not full anymore, and my fuel pump (1 week old) is making a clicking noise. i was thinking not enough fuel is being pumped, or timing?

I brought my 01 Elantra to the shop with a bad transmission (wouldn't go into any gear). The guy first said he might get to it later that day but he “didn’t know if he could get the right parts because it was a Friday afternoon”. He quoted me $600. I called at the end of the day and he said it wouldn't be until Monday or later. He was shorthanded on Monday so he didn't get to look at it. He said it was just a broken pin and that the transmission itself was fine. He had to take it apart and put a new pin in. I call Tuesday, and he said it will now cost over $1,000 (all in labor, even though he said before “it’s hard to get parts on a Friday”) and that it'd be ready Wednesday. The car was taken in from the yard Tuesday around 10:30 am, and I called at 2 p.m. He was quoting me $1,000 in labor even though I know it sat in the lot for a while. This is a small transmission-specific shop.

I need the car ASAP so I have to pay, but am I getting screwed and if so what can I do? Contact the BBB?

The catalytic converter may be plugged; goes 45mph (was only 15!). The exhaust is barely warm (it putt-putts); the battery won't hold a charge; tonight the fuse box was clicking. Is it fixable? There's 160,000 miles on it. Never had engine trouble. Help! Any honest opinions? Thanks!

I have an 89 Dodge van, 93,000 miles, 318 with 3 spd Automatic transmission and a lock-up torque converter for "overdrive". The overdrive only works intermittently, and when it is working the cruise control will also work. When it is not, the cruise will also not operate. The transmission shifts well and the overdrive converter also seems to work properly when it does engage. Is there a common electrical relay or circut between the converter and the cruise? If so, do you know the name and location? It's not an issue with the brake pedal sensor, that seems to be operating fine. Whatever is causing the problem seems to "decide" what it's going to do at each engine start-up. It could be fine for hours, then you stop the engine and restart it and it doen'st work again until there's been another stop and restart cycle. And, it doesn't reset everytime this way. Thanks

The Check Engine light is illuminated and searching other answers here indicates it could be an oxygen sensor. I checked the gas cap, and when I removed it, i could hear the vacuum releasing so I guess that's ok. Other answers indicated anything from nothing serious to very serious. They were told to empty the gas and fill it up with brand name gas....Who to believe? thanks for your experienced help.

The truck thinks the driver's door is open most of the time, dome light stays on and the key-dinger drives me nuts. Sometimes it works ok. I'm sure there is a sensor somewhere for the door-open. Do you know where it is and what a new one costs? The truck is a '98. Thanks.
