the coolant fans should come on around 215 to 220 deg. it should not run any hotter that 220 deg this is around 3/4 on gauge, most of the time they run at the half way mark., the t-stat on the 4 banger is at the water pump and you will need to lift your car in the air to install it, see source on how to replace t-stat, run your car with hood open and see if coolant fans are coming on, there they are not start here.

Most radiator thermostats are designed to open at 190 degrees. Most cooling fan thermostats are set to turn on at 210 degrees. 260 degrees is boil over because the fluid in under pressure. So anywhere between 190 and 210 would be in the range of your cooling system. It is about time to flush and fill the 5 year /100,000 mile anti-freeze if you haven't already.

Anything above 160 is good...the hotter the better. 190-210 would be nice.

160 is marginal and may cause sludging.

180-195 is normal...210 is borderline ok.Thats a bit too warm and a sign of problems to come.
