sit and rev up by itself to about 3000 rpm and then drop back to about 900 rpm. Today it quit and i tried holding the accelerator to the floor and then not accellerating. It finally started when i "Pumped" the accelerator. Could it be the throttle position sensor, or does it even have one.

could be, the tps sensor, idle air control, or clogged injectors. Is your check engine light on? If so go to advanced auto parts and get a free computer scan. If you need help with the codes, email me back..

Honda's have a simular auto rev problem when they are cold which does something simular. the car will rev on its own to say 3000 and then back to say 900. this problem relates to the MAP sensor on the air intake.

Also 01 you might want to change your fuel filter and ad some dry gas this could cause hard starting or hesitations

Hyundai's also have a Mass Airflow Sensor that is very similar to the ones that were in 80's chevy's. These things were notorious for causing those exact problems. Scan it to be certain but I would be surprised if it wasn't the MAF.
