The truck thinks the driver's door is open most of the time, dome light stays on and the key-dinger drives me nuts. Sometimes it works ok. I'm sure there is a sensor somewhere for the door-open. Do you know where it is and what a new one costs? The truck is a '98. Thanks.

About 20 bucks and it's in the latch. Take door panel off and make sure window is up. The door ajar switch is in the bottom of the latch. It simply turns to lock in place. Unplug the wiring connector and use your thumb to snap it loose, counter clockwise. Push the new one in and turn cw till it clicks in place. Keep in mind, on some years you have to take the screws out of the latch and move it away from door before the switch will turn. Don't think you have to on a 98, not sure. Wd-40 may fix it..if you want to spray it every week

It's located inside the door at the latch mechanism, and it can often be fixed just by spraying some WD-40 into the latch opening. This is a common problem on newer Fords.

Door Ajar Light Stays On

The door ajar switch is mounted on the door latch inside the door. It needs to be replaced. To get to it, removed the door panel. Find and remove the lower window track bolt and push track aside. Unplug switch and then twist it ccw (i think) to remove it.
I think they are about $20.

the sensor it's on the latch that locks on the pin on the door pillar,
if you want ot test it just open the door with the keys on the ignition and stick a pen or pencil on the latch till it locks the bell should go off.

What that guy said. I would try graphite lube instead of WD40, though. WD40 is a penetrant, which rust is not the problem here...it's a switch needing to be lubricated.
