I understand timing & the mechanics of it, I just do not understand from an electrical stand point how the timing light lead picks up or detects any sort of signal or impulse through the insulation of the spark plug wire. I have a timing light which I hooked up according to the manufacturer's specifications and still no flashing light. (And yes I know that there is a flippin' trigger to operate it). So I think it is broken

When i dirve long distances and turn off my car it won't turn on again unless i push it. ( its a manual trans.) or unless i wait a couple of minutes ( I guess for it to cool down). I believe it could be the starter? If anyone can give me some pointers or hints of what it might be please let me know.

When checking & adjusting the ignition timing on a car, how do you hook up the timing light. There are 3 wires: 1 goes to the battery terminal (+) the other (-) and then the last goes to the #1 spark plug wire.
Do you clamp the outside of the wire over the insulation or what?? How does this Ding - Dang gadget function???

when the engine heat guage reaches the half way point coolent leaks where the pipe on the top of the radiator that leads to the engine leaks by the water pump after I shut off the engine. I have tightened the clamp but I wonder why the water does not go to the overflow resivior. Is my radiator or pump pooched? Or will tightening the clamp solve the problem. The engine does not overheat.

I took my 05 civic to the dealer to have the charging system tested. It tested normal: 485 CCA on stock battery, 12.72V Battery voltage and 14.40V for charging system.

THEN... they left the lights on and had to jump my car when i came to pick it up. They did another test to make sure there was no damage, but came up with these results:

423 CCA
12.50 V Battery
13.48 V Charging system <--- this they say is low

The manager says it could be due to my stereo system (which was OFF the whole time). But then why did it test normal to begin with? So is this guy lying through his teeth?

In case you're wondering here's the wattage:

Alpine CDA-9856 head unit
Alpine MRP-F250 40W X 4 RMS
Alpine MRP-M450 400W X 1 RMS (only pushing a 300W sub)

Experienced mechanics and MECP's please help!

I need to know a few things...
1.Where is the heater core on my car?
2. Why do I have a over flow hose (that has a steady leak) coming out of the bottom of (what looks like) my heater core unit on the fire wall of my engine bay?
3. Where is the the thermostat on my car?
4. And where is my water pump?

Mine you I have no money to take this car to a repair shop or rent a car...treat this as a do or die situation.

My wife was driving from the store and drove over a piece of glass. She heard a hissing noise, so she went to the local tire shop for a quick fix. The person their told her it would cost 18 dollars to patch the tire up. Is it just me, or isn't that supposed to be a 5 dollar fix, where they would just plug the hole up?! They also told her it was a 30 minute wait and so she had to walk 2 miles home with my infant and 3 year old daughter before my young son got home from school. The tire shop said that "Insurance regulations" prevent them from using plugs to fix the tire so now they charge 13 dollars more for a patch. It sounds like a bunch of crap that they gave her because she is a woman. Can anyone verify this "regulation" because I don't want to be upset and go down there and embarass myself if this is an actual fact.
