when the engine heat guage reaches the half way point coolent leaks where the pipe on the top of the radiator that leads to the engine leaks by the water pump after I shut off the engine. I have tightened the clamp but I wonder why the water does not go to the overflow resivior. Is my radiator or pump pooched? Or will tightening the clamp solve the problem. The engine does not overheat.

you have to replace the radiator hose, the one that goes to the water pump. I assume it is the lower radiator hose, as that is the hose radiator hose that attaches to the water pump. You can do this by yourself. Drain the radiator first (save it, but keep it away from cats, it's poisonous, then refill the radiator with it if it looks ok to use). Then replace the hose. Buy new clamps. Cost: about $18. [well, after rereading your question, you are pretty confused about which hose it is; In one case you say the hose by the waterpump; in the next sentence, you say coming out of the top of the radiator. Just drain the radiator, take it off and bring it with you. Tell them whether you had to reach inside the top of the engine to take it off, or had to crawl underneath the car to take it off. They'll figure it out].

replace the hose that goes from the top of the radiator to the engine. before you install the new hose, make sure you clean the outer surface of the connection points at each end (radiator and engine). it seems likely that there may be some rust and/or pitting at the engine connection that is preventing the hose from making a tight seal.

It will if you leak all the coolant out. Sounds like your water pump is leaking but I have no idea what kind of car or motor
