Maintenance & Repairs - December 2006

I took out the thermostat. The temp was cooler. Then, while on the highwaym the temp gauge indicates normal temp but the engine stopped. I pulled mover and found it had overheated. After cooling it down, the engine started and I put in water with engine running. I reached hone with no prob? But this is the 2nd time it happned. Please help.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am 2.2L and right now i have a stuck lifter because the people at wal-mart did not put the oil plug all the way back in and the engine was deprived of oil. I have no dash lights on that indecate that anything is wrong and it drives fine no loud idol or anything, BUT it seems that every week i have to fill my car with oil. What can i do to slow this down.

There is already engine oil in the engine. It's close to full, and I accidentally added about 750ml of water.

I have checked a few websites and some ppl said its ok for the engine. Please confirm if this is true. Desperately need help!!!

I'm going to see my dad, havent for 4 months now. He has a 97 f150. What Can I do to his truck to make it alittle louder and sound "meaner". With no money or alittle. I see alot say like cut it, or drill holes, but where? and how? and will it do anytihng to truck its self? What about if I put I shiny tip on it?

While driving my car, I accidentally changed the transmission lever to "N" (Neutral) from "D" (Drive) (out of panic). I tried driving my car for a few feet, with lots of screeching and the tachometer showing quite high RPMs, when I realized what had happened. I quickly changed it back to "D" and was able to drive smoothly back home.
Is there anything I should be worried about ? What happens internally, in the car, when you try to drive it with "N" transmission level ? Should I get something checked for damage etc. ? I have automatic transmission in my Toyota Camry '96 sedan.

this has to do with a question i just asked... i never new they "burnt up" what does that mean and how much does it cost to replace ? like i drive about on average 15-20 miles a day in my current car how long will it take the clutch to burn on this new car... and what does that mean thanks

ok so heres the prob, have my blazer , and its been running like crap, feels like its not gettin enough gas, its bucking and backfiring and popping and not wanting to go, smells like gas, have had the fuel filter changed many of times a quick fix becuz it would act better after doing so, not anymore.. now the engine light comes on , so i brought it to the mechanic, he says its getttin 2 much gas, ok so he says its either a module in the computer or its the fuel pump in the tank., i replaced the computer , that didnt help-, ok heres the thing, when the air filter was off , and they reved the engine i saw fire shoot out of the fuel ingection.. ok so heres the question , do ya think its the fuel pump or the timing??

I have a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis 5.0 with the 4-speed automatic.(a4od???), anyway, the transmission is going bad, and I happen to have a newly rebuilt 1984 Marquis auto trans.(also a4od???) sitting in my garage. Would this trans. be a direct swap? Is it the same? Were there differences in the computer controls between 84-90? It would be a shame to pay to have the '90 trans rebuilt when I have a new '84 sitting there...any answers welcome...

Ok i have a 1983 nissan 280zx . When i turn the switch to turn on the healights only the right one turns on. The dashboard lights wont come on either when i do trun the swicth on . Can somebody help me with this ?

I am looking to invest in an air impact wrench that I can use for removing lugnuts from my vehicles, since i do a lot of my own maintenance. I would like to start in the $100-$300 range for the wrench, and same for the compressor. What do I need to look for (I see 3/8, 1/2, 3/4 and twin hammer vs twin clutch and torque/free speed). Also what size air compressor do I need?

I just purchased a Ford Focus 2007 and I think it might have an AC/Heater problem. I notice that when I am driving with the AC/Heater off, this weird awful smell vaporizes the inside of my car. It like goes in my mouth and it's awful. Not sure if it's mildew. I try and burp and not inhale it. My head doesn't really hurt. It's more like some type of gas and it's coming out from the ventilation. But if I turn on the AC or heater, then there's really no smell. I have to open my window sometimes to get the smell out or just leave the AC on forever. What is this and how can I fix this? It's really getting on my nerves. Nice car, but awful odor.
