My 87 Ford Ranger makes some pinging noises when accelerating. Especially if its been running for a while. Today I filled it up with Shell V-Power high octane gas., Not only does it ping less, it has more power. Should I be worried I have hurt my engine by running it with crappy gas

I have a 1995 Ford Explorer 4.0L V6 that is leaking coolant. The leak is heavy and is not coming from the radiator, or the radiator hoses. The leak appears to be on the driver's side (everything on the passenger side is dry) and appears to be coming from right below the power steering reservoir. I have not had much time to look at the leak but am trying to get a good starting point and what I should look for. It looks like the origin is on the driver's side, right under the power steering reservior, about midway down. Any help/advice would help!

I have a mark4 VW Golf S Reg 1998 1.4S Petrol. Whenever I slow down e.g. approach traffic lights, my engine just completely cuts out. It starts again with no problem. I've had the car for about 8 months. When I first bought it, this used to happen about once a month but it now happens more often. The other day it cut out three times in the space of 20 minutes! Can any mechanics or people who know about cars out there give me some suggestions as to what the problem might be?
I did take the car to a local garage. The mechanic plugged in a diagnostic computer but said all it was bringing up was a code which didn't mean anything.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

I got my oil changed a few weeks ago on my '96 Honda Accord and last night my oil light came on (which I thought was strange) So, my boyfriend was looking around under the hood and on the ground to see if I had any leaks, and I didn't. He decided to take a look at the spark plugs and he pulled one out and notice that there was motor oil all over it. Is it normal to have motor oil on the spark plugs? Or is this a problem?

I have an 00 civic, and I'm trying to fit wheel covers on it, but they seem to be a little big. The sizes are right, so please don't answer that. Is there any trick I can do to slip them on a little easier?

I bought an 18 month old VW golf in July this year. In the last 5 months it has done 3000 miles. The car was at the garage for something and they have told me my brake pads need replacing as are 95% worn. They are telling me they may have been upto 70% worn when I bought it (they do not have a figure but say if they were worn more than this they would have changed them). So they are saying I have worn my brake pads (front and back) at least 25% in 3000 miles or 5 months. I find this hard to believe and think they were worn when I was sold the car-is there any guidance on how long pads should last and what can I do about this???!!!

My 2004 Toyota Siena's head light has moisture inside and the car dealer told me that it cannot pass safety inspection. Changing the new light will cost me $300 +.

Is there a way to do it yourself to remove the moisture without getting a brand-new head light?

The shop I took it to said it was a cracked fan belt. That cost $150.00 and it didn't solve the problem. Its still whining when I start it up and accelerate after its been sitting for a few hours.

Is it the alternator? Fuel pump? Is it something else? I don't want to have them replace everything through trial and error to find out. Have you heard of this before or know what it could be? Thanks!

My Xterra is in the shop and they are changing the brakes and calipers. How much should this cost?

Where can I find reference prices on the internet to see if I am being charged a reasonable amount?

I bought some bad gas from a service station. Will buying bad gas make your fuel pump go bad? I took my van to a mechanic and he said that it cost $445 for it to get repaired. Does it really cost this much and will bad gas make your fuel pump go bad?

This van runs great and does not give us many problems, until now. It has 140,000 miles and we expect to drive it until it dies. Would you install a rebuilt transmission for $1,500 or a new one for $2,500?
