Clutches work on friction, kind of like brakes in reverse. If you keep slipping the clutch, especially when revving the engine a lot, you'll burn up the friction material the clutch is made from, and it won't grip properly to transfer power anymore.

You burn up clutches faster in urban driving, where it's stop start all the time, and you're constantly on and off the clutch. You can kill one inside 10k if you're really abusing it. On long-haul work at constant speed, no gear changes, clutches can last a ridiculous amount of time.

Hey there, first it depends on the type of car that you are driving... if you are peeling out and popping the clutch often on a big car or truck- thats a lot of weight to be jerking around. Second, if you race the car hard or towe anything around you are putting more weight on the clutch when you change gears. It can cost you anywhere from 50-150 to get the parts, but 100-300 for labor. In a brand new car, a clutch can last 60-70,000 miles driven normally. Good luck!

A clutch wears out just like your brakes do. The life expectancy of a clutch depends on your driving habits. Considering you know how to drive a stick properly and are not doing alot of stop and go driving, you could get 100k miles or more. The cost depends on the make of the vehicle but on average if it is front wheel drive you can expect approx $500-700.

I got 9 years and 155000 miles on my Ford ranger PU clutch and just changed it.
Burnt up mean the padding (friction surface) on the plate has worn down so far it will no longer grab and stick to the flywheel.

Depends on the type of vehicle as to cost. ON some (like my truck) you have to drop the transmission to rreplace the clutch. Others you open a side plate and pull some stuff to geet to the clutch. ON a ranger (4x2) the estimate was 800 to 1000 dollars US. I did it myself because I had a backup car, was not in a hurry and I am cheap. Parts cost me 200 plus some tools I wanted so add another 100.

It depend on the driver if he or she riding the clutch(don't let go the clutch all the way and step on the gas at the same time) a lot. I am at over 150K still with the original clutch. BUt when it burns out you will know(when you step on the gas the RPM increase but the car does not excel. as fast like before) hope this help.

It really depends on who is driving and how its taken care of avg. 125,000 however there are a lot of variables....how fast u drive, how quick u take off, if driving in town or highway, how many traffic lights u stop for, do u ride the clutch, when it starts slipping it's "burnt up" well on its way to going out...meaning time to replace it

Clutches made nowadays last a very long time with proper
driving.

Back in the 1960`s you were lucky to get 10000 miles out of them.

Take it to a parking lot and get to know how the clutch and you work together, As you start letting up on the clutch you also increase the gas peddle evenly, trial and error. You will soon get the hang of it and the girl will feel safer in the car with you. lol !

Usually up to 90k to 150k miles, unless you ride the clutch, in which case you can burn it out earlier, or if you do a lot of stop-and-go (like traffic jams).

I just replaced it on my car at 150,000 miles.
