My 1992 Corolla won't start after buying a new battery only a week ago. I just get a faint electrical humming sound when I turn the ignition. This was the reason I bought the new battery, but then it happened again the day after I installed it. As with the old battery, I was able to jump-start the car, which makes me think the battery wasn't even the problem. The antifreeze was almost gone so I thought that might have been a problem since it's like -17°C today. I filled up with antifreeze and it ran okay for a few days, then I started having trouble starting. I would get the humming sound as soon as I turned the ignition, but after a second or two it would fire and start up fine. Now today, it doesn't start no matter how long I hold in the ignition, I just get the humming sound. What is the problem, and can I fix it easily? If it's a problem with the starter, why would jump-starting it work? I'm looking for a new car right now, and don't want to invest much into this vehicle.
Thanks!
