think this may be the reason why or what else do I have to look into? I'd take it to a shop and just tell them to look at it but I really can't afford to be "bs'd"

Two different warning lights....

Here is why it turns the Service Vehicle Soon light on.

Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Circuit Description

Battery voltage is applied to the headlamp bulbs at all times. The headlamps are controlled by supplying the ground for the lamps through the turn/headlamp switch assembly. When the turn/headlamp switch is in the ON position, the ground is supplied through CKT 150.

The body control module (BCM) controls the daytime running lamps (DRL). The system allows the high beam headlamps to operate at a reduced intensity when the following conditions exist:

The engine is running.
The park brake is off.
The transaxle is not in the PARK position.
The normal headlamps are turned OFF.
The BCM turns on the system by grounding CKT 592. This action energizes the DRL relay. This condition allows a reduced voltage across the headlamps by placing both high beam headlamps in SERIES with each other. When the headlamp switch is turned ON, the headlamps operate normally.


The key point to this is that when a bulb in a SERIES circuit goes out the ciruit is broken. The BCM detects no voltage drop and sets the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON light.

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls exterior lighting which includes the following:

• Low beams and parklamps

• High beams

• Daytime Running Lights (DRL)

• Park lamps

• Front foglamps

• Rear foglamps



No codes to clear just get your bulb replaced. and the light will go out on it's own. Promise.

The service vehicle soon light tells you routine maintenance is due, such as, oil and filter changes. Depending on mileage more service is recommended. Air filter, transmission fluid, Etc.
Call the dealer and ask what service is due at the current mileage, and while you are at it ask him how to turn off the service engine light.
A headlight out would not cause this.
The Check Engine light is the one to worry about. If it comes on and stays on you have a malfunction of some sort.

I to had a 99 GA. The burned out bulb is not the culprit. It can be a million different things. It happened to me one night while driving. I did a quick check of everything and it hazard lights would not work. Pulled over and replaced the fuse and viola, no more Dummy light. Your best bet is to go to Autozone to get the code scanned for free. Then you can check out http://www.gaownersclub.com/
They will help you out there to tell you what is needed to be done.
might be simple enough to do yourself. If not you will know what to tell a mechanic at the shop what the problem is.

no there are 2 service lights on that particular car......if you have a lamp out the service vehicle light will come on and if you have a drivetrain problem the service engine soon light will come on.....put a bulb in it and i will bet the farm the light will go out

no. if your headlight is out you're going to notice when you drive at night so there's no sensor for it.

take the vehicle to autozone and ask them to pull the codes for you. they do it for free and will probably be able to tell you what you need to fix, or you can post the codes here and people will tell you what they mean

don't take it to a mechanic until you know what's wrong with your car and what you want them to fix. that's the best way to not get bullshitted is to make a work order beforehand and not get into paying a mechanic to find problems for you.

they wont be related you need to change the bulb in your head light. the service light is millage related. its all ways a good idea to at least have spark plugs and an oil change done and have your service light reset but remember there could be other Major service items need attending to depending on the mileage you've done.(cam belt if it has one brakes checked etc)

the headlights has nothing to do with the "service vehicle soon", when that appears, it means you have to do a tune up on your vehicle, which incledes, oil change, spark plugs and cables replaced, air and fuel filter, are the basics of a tune up!

Let them know this. Tell them that you dont want to be bullcrapped and if they do bullcrap you, that you will act like a fool and burn the place down. I did this once and they made sure not to make any false crap. Well, anyway the best place would be Meinke. They are legit

CHECK THE OXYGEN SENSOR OR THE CO2 SENSOR COULD BE BAD. THOSE ARE EXPENSIVE. THE HEADLIGHT JUST NEED REPLACED AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CK ENGINE... IS THE CAR ACTING WEIRD SINCE THE LIGHT HAS COME ON??? IF NOT, IT COULD JUST BE A SHORT OR JUST NOTHING HARMFUL.
