It depends on the make, model and year. Some cars require inexpensive headlights that are easy to install yourself (total cost $10) but other require expensive headlights ($20-$30) that are not easy to do yourself. Some auto parts stores will install things like that for a nominal fee ($10).

$5 if you do it yourself. get a tube of clear window silicon from lowes or home depot and a cheap caulk gun. pull out the headlight assembly and turn on your oven to 200 degrees. put the headlight assembly in there for 5 minutes and the glue will loosen up enough for you to pry the old lense off. if not, toss it back in for another 5 minutes. after you have the lense off, clean housing of any remaining glue, then apply the silicon inside the lense channel, apply the new lense, and tape into place over night. come back the next morning and pull the tape off and then install the housing back into the car. done.

You can buy a headlight at wal-mart or a hardware store for as little as $10.00, though some can be $40.00 it depends on the model of your car. If you or someone you know wants to intsall it, it only takes about 5-10 minutes and isn't that hard. If you go to a hardware store, they might even be willing to do it for you.

Go to any auto parts store.
There is one on almost every block.
Tell them you need a headlight.
99% will install it for free for under $10.
"I need a headlight for a 2000 Altima, how much? And can you install it?"

If they say that it will cost extra, drive another block.

open the hood of the car. there's a plug going into the back of the headlights. twist that out of there, it will come out. the bulb is in there.

those halogen bulbs cost like 5-10 bucks each. just put in the new bulb with a kleenex so you don't get any sweat on the bulb, turn on the lights to see if it works, then twist it back into the back of the light fixture.

If you don't know much about how to replace your headlight - I would recommend taking it to any Jiffy Lube (or similiar). They usually test all your lights to make sure they are in working order and can replace them fairly innexpensively.

You may want to take a look in your owner's manual... many times it will tell you, step by step, how to replace the headlight. Then - if you feel like you can do it... check to see what type of headlight (model number) and go to your local auto parts store (Pep Boys, AutoZone.. etc..) pick up a headlight (usually cheap) and do it yourself.

Put it in yourself, and it depends if it is a sealed beam or not but it's not a difficult job at all. As for where to buy them cheap, anywhere but the dealer but then if it is still a dealer item then it will be cheaper at the dealer of course. Many new vehicles just have changeable bulbs which is a far cheaper and easier option.
