some cars have a flywheel welded to the torque converter compare to other vehicles,torque converter are separate away from flywheel

The difference between fluid flywheel and torque convector is that the fluid flywheel serves as an hydraulic clutch and multiplies torque whiles the torque convector only multiplies torque.

A fluid coupling consists of two turbines in a tank of hydraulic fluid -- one is the drive turbine comnnected to the engine; the other the the driven turbine connected to the driving wheels thru the transmission. The drive turbine spins the oil against the driven increasing it to the same speed as the drive; just as if they were connected by solid link. At full speed the driven turbine has the same speed & torque as the drive. A "torque converter" places ring of variable blades between the turbines that can be moved to slow down the speed at which the fluid moves the driven turbine. This has the effect of increasing the torque of the driven turbine while slowing it down: just as a gear reduction in a mechanical transmision would.

It's the torque converter.If it was the pump you would not even shift when cold. your pump sits behind the torque converter. Id give a link but yahoo is giving me a 909 code. just google torque converter top listing

if you mean fluid coupling , there is a difference, they do not have the torque multiplication that is available from a torque converter, early clutchless transmissions used them and there are some industrial applications , say you are mechanically driving a rock crusher you would want a fluid coupling just before the device so it would stop the vibration from travelling back up your mechanical assembly. . hope this helped

IF this is an Automatic Transmission, the torque convertor is the flywheel. Some torque convertors have flex plate attached to them.

only an auto has a torque converter which is full of auto trans fluid, this is bolted to a fly wheel (which is what the starter spins to start the car) a manual has a fly wheel which has a clutch plate instead.
