Starting fluid will make the car run, but not for long if the fuel pump is out. It works best if someone else sprays it while you crank it. Use it sparingly! Overuse of starting fluid will wear out the piston rings in your engine. It would be better to pour a little gasoline in the throttle body instead of using starting fluid. Good luck.

If you just spray it once it'll fire once. If you have someone intermittently spraying it it'll stay running as long as they spray. Be careful though, too much spray will cause a backfire. It takes forever for eyebrows to regrow.

Yes, you can spray it a bit to keep it running while someone else cranks it, but it will run rough since there's no real way to meter it out properly.

You can use it to test to see if it will run. But remember you can not use much because there is no way to regulate it ,so the engine will run very fast. Be sure to spray very short spurts and don't use it for very long.
