I have a 1999 Calillac Deville, recently I had problems with battery\alternator, I took it to a mechanic friend, he replaced it with another alternator, next day I experienced worse problems, car was dead, then took it to a Cadillac dealership, first they asked for an analysis fee for $110, which I agrred, next day they called and said they need to put a new battery to check and see the problem, price $ 180 installed,, I agreed to this too, following day they called and said they need to put a new good "Cadillac" brand alternator, price is $ 960, and then they said they will check to see if there are other problems,, my question is, am I stuck ? how much really an alternator cost with labor? thanks for your advices,

2000 Mits Montero Sport. Steering wheel shakes between 50-55 mph. No other time, it doesn't matter if I am accelerating, decelarating or braking. The alignment is correct. The mechanic said the tires are 'out of round' and cannot be balanced. I have Yokohama tires that have nearly all of their tread. No weird tread wear on any of the tires. It seems odd. Also, the anti lock brake light is on, even though the brakes are good. Mechanic said that is a switch problem. Also, the 4 wheel drive indicator is blinking even though I am in 2x4. When I shift into 4x4 it stays lit steady and four wheel drive is engaged.

My 80 trans am has a 4.6 and is turbo charged. Its only rated at about 150 hp. Its slow and guttles for a V8 and eats gas like crazy. Does anyone know if they make chips for these, or a turbo booster enhancer? What can I do without having to take the engine out to ad more hp to it. Did they come with restricters or governors? Will adjusting the timing work? Anyone with suggestions please help.

Hello everyone. The problem I am having is the connection to my car battery. The car won't start (nothing - central locks, lights, etc) but when I jiggle around the battery it reconnects and I am good to go. I have this problem periodically so I had a friend help me disconnect the cables, clean the area and then tighten everything back on which helped for a while. But the problem came back.
I tried tightening the bolts but what "helps" is the angle at which the cables coming off the battery are at. I'm not sure what the cabes are cables are called but it is near a box labeled FUSE. Sorry I can't be more specific but I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

I find so many late-model cars to be an awful pain to work on. Too many parts are jammed in some really awkward spots; in my '97 Ford Contour, for example, the factory service manual tells you to remove the cat and oil separator just to replace the PCV valve. This makes it about an hour job--at the very least--if you happen have hands of an 11-year old girl and about two cans of PB Blaster to free the badly seized bolts retaining the cat assembly. (Note: I managed this with a long screwdriver and brute force, something I wouldn't recommend anyone else doing)

So, back to my question. What are the easiest late-model cars that you've ever worked on?
I'm talking '99 and up, compact or mid-size.
Something you yourself would buy and drive.

Then I pushed it out of the road and in to a parking spot and it wouldnt push anymore. Some one said the something is Bound... I am a computer guy so I dont know too much about cars please keep that in mind. Thanks in Advanced.

this has been goin on for a while now, i have a 6hp techumseh engine for yerf dog and the gas is leaking from the carbourator where the air filter is. i looked at the float and it had a hole in it, had someone fuse the hole where there is no more hole and tested it and it floats, it doesnt take on gas either. but when i put it back on i thought it would run, but as soon as i put gas in it, about 5min later, leakin gas from carb, and when it leaks, its no drop every 2 sec, its a steady stream, so i keep adjusting the part on the float higher and higher so it closes needle with less gas, more and more i did this it leaked less gas and i finally stopped adjusting it when gas leaked OUT OF THE BOWL, NOT AIR INTAKE PART, 1 hour from adjusting it, so i figure let gas drain then fill some w/ gas and try starting it.. no start. so i push down the float/needle adjuster thing to let in slightly more gas into bowl and then start it and it started, but it started and tried to take off on its own.

I don't think it's out of alignment, because when we are driving on a straight road and let go of the wheel, it doesn't veer in either direction. Any ideas? Thanks!

Please be sure to tell me how you know. My husband will ask! :)
