Maybe it is low on power steering fluid, -- it makes kind of a "grinding" sound. It is called "cavitating" -- which means it is pumping air along with the fluid, -- makes the steering get kind of stiff (if enough fluid is gone), and gets prorgressivly worse as the fluid goes down! Fill it up and it will stop after a few minutes (after the air is all pumped out!) Check and finish filling after a couple days!

What is wier? weird?Really need more information on the sound. If you think it is power steering check the fluid. Is there signs of a leak? If it fails you can still steer it but it will be hard steering.

if you positive it's your power steering the pump can lock up and burn up the belt and make it difficult to steer. I would have the problem checked out and repaired.
