I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier 4 cylinder
The bolt on the end of the red wire that conects into the alternator is stripped on the threads on the alternator itself. Is there a way to fix this? The threads on this bolt are fine. But without the threads in the alternator the wire won't stay in.

I was driving and stopped at a light. Put my foot on the brakes when suddenly my van, which had till then an idle that I was proud of, popped forward as if to over power my braking. It wanted to go. I threw it into neutral to listen to the idle and realized that my beauty of an idle was now a pretty high reving idle that was not due to my foot being on the pedal or my throttle linkage not springing back into position. Can someone help me out here for it is hard to drive like this not to mention stop.

I have a 1998 Ford Escort and the transmission is going...I have heard this is a sealed unit and computer controlled so it cannot be repaired...DOes anyone have an idea of how much a replacement would be? Or what else possibly could be repaired on a transmission with rough and slipping shifts. The problem is the worst when the car is cold.

i really never heard of a 310 wild cat motor before but thats what it says on the air cleaner top,the problem i'm having is the car has been parked for a number of years and before that i drove it every place and it ran fine, now after refueling and clean filters and plugs it ran good for maybe 1 hour then started pinging and labor knocking seams to be because of the no lead gas but i'm not sure, i really don't wish to add little bottles of stuff every time i drive to help the no lead gas problem, and don't like the newer electronic controled motors so a engine trade is not in the picture, the car has 28000 miles and rides like a dream, what could be done to make the car run the way it needs to and be able to make long trips like 2000 miles without problems about the new gas, their are many classic cars running around and i don't think they all have newer running gear setups, please give me some help to make my ride run good again, thanks and have a good day.

I own a 1999 Toyota Camry (4 cyl) and recently I changed the radiator. Ever since then, my mileage has gone down.
Prior to the change, I used to get around 30+ mpg on the hiway and 23-24 miles in the city. Now, I get an average of 22 miles, after filling up, and I've driven on both highway and city roads.
Any suggestions as to what may have happened? and what can be done to fix this? Can something on the gas lines be messed around with? I'm thinking of talking to my mechanic but I wanted an opinion. I know there are some really knowledgeable people here. Thanks in advance for your help.

it's starting to rain here and my windshield fogs up like crazy even with the defrosters going, does putting shaving cream on the windshield keep it from fogging up? since it fogs up from the inside mostly, would you have to put the shaving cream on the inside aswell?

basically, i want to know if it works, and how to apply it. thanks

Last week (150km ago) the left rear caliper seized. A pair of calipers, pair of rotors, pads, brake flush, slider guides etc and 800$ later I was happy in my new found security and itching to continue my drive from work to home and back again. Until this morning when a dreadful clunking sound matched tempo with the speed I drove. If it went away, all I had to do was take a right hand turn to get it going again. (didnt have any left turns to try). Took it to a dealer down the street and they wanted to know why I fully replaced the brakes but not the shims as they were making the clunk.

Shouldn't this of been fixed at the first shop who supposedly did a 'complete' brake inspection?

Can shims go bad? I thought (and may be wrong) that shims attached to the pads on a 93 MX-6 and it should be easy to tell if they were worn/wearing out. Are they not a part that would wear with the other parts? Why charge me 800$ and then skimp on 30$ worth of parts?

Any ideas?

Thanks
-Dea

When my tank is full, my car runs fine. When it gets to half (and down from there) it stops when i brake medium/hard. I have to crank it back up and it will run, until of course I brake again. Also stops when I'm on a slope (facing down). I have to put the car in neutral, in order for the car to roll onto an even surface, and the start it again. It also doesn't even start when the tank is close to E. What's wrong?

I have a 1992 Honda Accord.

I have 97 Gallant. We replaced the harmonic balancer b/c it went out. The car would start before we changed the part (couple of months ago) after replacing the harmonice balancer it will not start. The car will turn over but will not start. We changed the spark plug and spark plug wires, checked the fuses. Almost everything we could think of. The spark plugs and wires all work. We used some starter fluid to try and get it to start, but it didn't. We were told that the car could have jumped timing or it could be the fuel pump. Could it be either of these or is there something I haven't thought about?
