I was just wondering if anyone would be able to let me know why my car is idling hard. What is happening is that when i start it up at times the rpm race to 2000 then when I put it in drive the car shakes and makes a "clunk" sound. Can anyone help me????????

had the same problem on my taurus, its your speed idle sensor. there easy to replace and cheap,and fix's your problem

It sounds like you may need a tune up. It may be idling too low when in drive. Do you know when the last time you had a tune up. If you have not for a long time or cannot remember, I would suggest you take it to a mechanic and get a tune up, or if you can perform it yourself, go that route.

Motor mount ..probably the one in front is busted.. The engine is made to start at 2000 and slowly come down to idle for emissions, but the clunk and vibration my guess is the slack in the bad motor mount...

Bring it to a mechanic shop for a second opinion

It sounds like the idle control solenoid. You can buy one at any good parts store. You may want to have a repair shop run the computer codes to verify this.

clean the idle air control, replace if not cured.
