I have 97 Gallant. We replaced the harmonic balancer b/c it went out. The car would start before we changed the part (couple of months ago) after replacing the harmonice balancer it will not start. The car will turn over but will not start. We changed the spark plug and spark plug wires, checked the fuses. Almost everything we could think of. The spark plugs and wires all work. We used some starter fluid to try and get it to start, but it didn't. We were told that the car could have jumped timing or it could be the fuel pump. Could it be either of these or is there something I haven't thought about?

If you removed the cam timing chain, your timing is the probolem.
You can affect more than your ignition timing, cam timeing will cause this problem, I just helped my neighbor with just this problem.

check that harmonic balancer again.some of them has fins on them, and if they get bent,it wont start, because thats what keeps it in time.also check the key way,to see if its still there...good luck.
