I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier 4 cylinder
The bolt on the end of the red wire that conects into the alternator is stripped on the threads on the alternator itself. Is there a way to fix this? The threads on this bolt are fine. But without the threads in the alternator the wire won't stay in.

I think this is the wire that goes to the battery at some point but I might be wrong.
I just noticed that the wire wasn't all the way in a couple days ago but figured that when the mechanic checked my alternator he forgot to put it all the way back in. Wrong it's stripped.

new alternator ....or get a very fine piece of solder and put it in the opening, then screw the bolt in so it makes a tighter connection.....would be easier if i could show you ...lol

To fix it properly, you should have someone tap the hole to the next size and get a new bolt to fix it.

Of course, if the bolt is SAE threads, you may be able to get a metric bolt started and it will cut it's own threads, or vice-versa.

If the mechanic effed it up, he should fix it.

yeah , Ive stripped that puppy myself a couple of times, one fix I've used is to get the same gauge wire and solder it into a loop that is smaller than the stud, screw (and force ) it on and give it a touch of heat to hold it there , the stud must have no oil or grease on it, care full with the heat, and splice this into your red wire , next time you replace the alt. make shure it has the nut on it. oh yeah disconnect the battery first. good luck , be patient
