the wheels are not balanced. that means that the side of at least one wheel is heavier than the other side. Take your car to a tyre wheel shop and ask them to balance it. you were right, well done...
and i am in a good mood cos it's my 21st birthday!

How old are your tires. I have seen this problem many times and we start with easy stuff first. Most common is that a tire has developed a slight bulge near the top of the sidewall or the belts have shifted. The tire tread will appear to have shift in one spot for about 6 to 8 inches.
If your steering wheel is shaking, it will be tire on the front of the car. If it is not the tire, have someone strong enough grab around the top of the tire and try to shimy the wheel. If it moves freely, it may be wheel bearings. If this not it, you will have to go to a shop that can look further into it for you. You will not fix it yourself.
Start cheap and work your way up. Find the problem before throwing money at it.

It's either time to have the tires rotated, or your harmonic balance has warped. That's a pulley on the business end of the engine that rides around on the crank shaft to keep down the vibrations. It could also be a computer problem, a misfire, or many things. Take the car to a QUALIFIED mechanic, have them put it on an analyzer and see what the 'puter tells you. It also wouldn't hurt to go ahead and have the tires rotated and re-balanced. You'll get more miles out of them that way. Once you determine what is causing the problem then you can repair it more readily.

1) Wheels out of balance. Get a dynamic not a static balance.
2) Tyre/wheel could be damaged.
3) Wheel hub and suspension assy could be damaged or worn.
The first two need a qualified mechanic to put the wheel on a tyre balancer and check for any runout or irregularities. The third is looked at by a qualified mechanic or mechanic who specialises in suspension for damage or wear.

You can go to an service to balance the wheels, it do not cost much that. Probably is for your rubber is used in time already, you can see that by seeing how much is the thickness. Or what I presume it is, is the vibration of your engine, at high speeds when is having high revolutions/minute. You do not have what to do it for this. That not mean you do not have a good car.

You definitely need an alignment your tires are not lined up properly and when you reach faster speeds they will tend to shutter , also when you drive at lower speeds you will not feel the shaking but your tires are wearing down at at a faster rate because they are not contacting the road evenly , It does not cost that much , anywhere from $45-$65 not too serious but get it done asap or you will have to buy new tires because of the uneven wear !

if you going over 50mph and the steering wheel shakes your front tires are out of balance or your alignment is off. check the inside wear of your front tires and see if you have uneven wear (alignment) if you are driving under 20mph and your back seats shake your rear tires are out of balance.

It is your tires. Most likely a front tire is either flat spotted or just bad. Have a tire shop look at them for free before spending a dime.

actually you're right, get your tires balanced, rotated, and aligned it shouldn't be too bad, i don't know where you're from but around here the going rate for that would be no more than 50 bucks
