If you know this car and so far you know what has been fixed on it - then go ahead and get it fixed for this price. Ask yourself the question: could I BUY a car that runs like this one (fixed) for $1800? Would I trust that car? If you could, and if you would - fix it. But for $1800 you would probably only be able to buy a car that needed things fixed.

It's not till the average fix-it bill for your car exceeds a monthly payment on a good car - that you go for the newer one and abandon the old.

PS - see if someone else will do it a little cheaper.

Check around for better prices on both the transmission and timing belt / water pump replacement.

Then get an idea for other repairs (tires, brakes) that you might need in 2-4 yrs and add those costs.

Then compare those costs against a down payment + new car payments + higher registration + higher insurance payments.

A well-maintained Civic should be good for 150K miles, maybe up to 200K. In my opinion, if you can keep a car for 150K miles or more, you come out far ahead vs. buying a new one.

What you need to ask your self is; what is that this going to rate you sooner or later? You are watching at a $2400 fix for a tight vehicle with best eighty,000 and relativly more recent mannequin. after it's performed it is going to typically be exceptional and pushed with out disorders for a at the same time except you're discovering extra to be improper. even though you offered it as is, you could get at such a lot $2000 for the vehicle. so if you are taking the 2400 and 2000 you may have 4400 to spend on a brand new used vehicle. A $4400 vehicle isn't the finest on this planet. you're watching at purchasing a older mannequin, ninety eight or older, with better mileage. as that stands, you're watching at disorders even faster once more together with your new used vehicle, and consequently going to need to spend more cash solving that, due to the fact that you'll certainly not purchase a used vehicle with no need to repair some thing. So, i could say repair the vehicle to your 2400, and be performed with repayments. That is the exceptional factor, not more repayments. so, relying on what your per month fee used to be, you would nonetheless be saving more cash via repairing it. ask your self how so much have you ever stored in view that the repayments had been completed, does it outweigh what the upkeep shall be? simply what i suppose must be performed.

Did you do maintenance on the trans? it sounds to soon to have problems.

I would say if the car is otherwise good shape, fixt the trans and do the timing belt.....you couldn't get another car for 1800, and then you would be making payments.

While having a new car is nice, think of other ways you could spend that money (invest, clothes, vacation, etc. etc. etc.) insted of in a car payment...its nice to not be sweating your paycheck so much.

that's not high mileage these days if you have kept the car maintained. and the dollar amount you are talking about is much less than it will cost for a new car. If everything else is in good shape fix it and keep it...unless of course you just want a new car.

so your looking at about $2000.. it depends on how much your willing to spend on a new car..you will have payments, higher insurance, more expensive to register..as long as you keep your current car up, id spend the money to get it repaired..you may not get what you want from the sale of your current car either..then you still have payments on a new one..just a thought..

If the car is in good shape keep it. My experience with honda after the 160,000 km (100,000 milles) is that once they begin with problems, it can become a headache to keep the car running well.

To me it would depend on wheather you want to have new car payments or not.
