I have a 1997 Volvo 850 & my breaks squeak 96% of the time when I drive. I had a mechanic tell me that I could haul *** in reverse and slam on the brakes a couple times to smooth out my brakes, but I want to know what your take on it was.

Also if there's any ideas or remedies you have I would definetly appreciate it because my car and school buses are the only cars I hear that squeak this bad.

Ps The brakes arent bad, they are just squeaky.

You know, the plastic screw type stay thingies that hold the trunk carpet to the frame. What are they called and/or where can I get them online? They like to break, thanks.

Toyota wants $95 just to look at it. The service rep on the phone said it could cost up to $500 to fix. Is this something I could get parts for and fix myself (I did replace a broken door handle myself once).

Would this be caused by a faulty radiator? surely the first signs would be the car overheating, then the head gaskets would have gone and then finally the oil and water would mix?

Thanks

Has anyone encountered the following electrical problems? I have intermittent functionality on my speedometer light (all other lights on the dash work fine), stereo LEDs (climate control LEDs work fine), and steering wheel-mounted stereo controls (the cruise controls there work fine).

Any suggestions would be appreciated. A mechanic told me that repairs in this area are labor-intensive - very expensive. The car has 97K and I hope to keep it for a while, but I cannot afford big ticket repairs. I would like to fix it myself if possible. Thanks.

My 1999 volkswagen jetta's brake light switch died. So I had it replaced on Monday. Here it is Thursday, and it has gone out again. What is causing the brake light switch to fail? A short? Do I need to replace the brake lamps?

I was driving down the road and the battery light came on, I was about thirty miles from anywhere so I tried to continue to drive. As I went on, all the lights came on my dash then faded. I lost headlights as well as dash lights, and all activity on the dash. I was running blind. However, my car continued to run until I got home. Is this a battery issue? Can a car continue to run if the battery is dying? Or does it look as though I have a more major problem? The car is a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. Thanks.
