And if it needs to be replaced, does that spell trouble for a car? I see a car I might like to buy, but the ad says that the water pump needs to be replaced. Someone please enlighten me. Thanks.

I have a 1988 Ford tempo and today in town i started it, drove it half a block after loading a peson in handicapped and got to the light and the engine started smoking as if hot.
I stopped and turn off the car but it almost did not start so I hurry and drove it to a gas station, added water to tank on drivers side and kept air flow to engine.
It made it home but what things can cause the engine to overheat.
the fan was not on.
belts- look ok and tight
thermostat - i dont know where it is.
Fuses - can't find the box and the hot gage is not working on dash.
water pump ? located where and how to check?
anyone with any help please post

I threw an a/c belt last week, did not replace it as I think the compressor has froze up. I did however replace the fan belt and since then there is a loud rattling noise when I start and shut off the engine. Otherwise it seems to run OK. Others have told me it is the water pump bearing getting ready to go. I thought if a pump bearing such as this were bad it would leak first. It doesn't. Could it be bad with no leak?

The fan initially started to not work on fan speed 1, a couple of months ago, now fan speed 2 is not working. I have to turn it on to 3 or highter to get a/c or heat.

ASE sertified master tech with massive electrical diagonisos experiance however i do not understand the paperwork that came from victoria british, it makes no sense at all unless the guages are supposed to be marked as in an old MGTD or MGA I have not yet seen the guages / this is a basket case restoration , totally disassembled and painted, bought with no harness. My truck starts to stutter when I am going aboout 55-60 mph. It will respond if I press the gas peddle, but when I am just cruising at the mentioned speed, my truck starts to stutter.

This morning my car would not start because of a lose connection. I went to tighten the bolt and not only did it break but I must have hit some other metal it sparked. I replaced the bolt but now I have this problem. So far I have been told two different things, one is that the ECU was without power for so long it was reset and now must relearn how the car drives. The second is that the positive battery cable is still lose and that is why it is happening. What's the deal?

My friend and i got into an argument about rotating tires. I say rotating tires means to drive the vehicle around, then the tires are rotated. She says to take them off and turn the around and then put them back on. WHo is right?

Howdy, I have never done this before, but for what the dealership quoted me, I think I will try to do it myself! I have an 03' 4Runner that Im trying to change the front brakes on. The only thing thing that scares me is the ABS system. I'm worried I may damage it some how.

I have a 2000 Chrysler Sebring and within the last week my oil light is going on only when I am braking at low speeds or coming to a complete stop, it immediately turns off as soon as I accelerate. I had an oil change about a day after this began and it did not handle it. Now within the past few days my car has been SUPER sluggish, I have been needing to punch it to get it to go. So is this a faulty oil pressure sending unit? Can I still drive it to and from work only or should I completely leave it alone until I get it fixed on Saturday?

I have a 1999 Ford Contour and the gear shift is stuck in park. Drove it to work no problems. One of the guys from work took the console apart and moved this plastic piece out of the way and the car shifted. So until I get the money I have to move the piece of out the way and shift. Anyone know how to tell a woman how to fix this?

warm and when it cold it runs normal ok and today when i was driving it in the morning it ran ok then just about 20 minutes ago it turned off while i was driving it like three times and it turned right back but it was starting rough now that i get home i turn it off and then i try to turn it back on and it doesnt do anything no noise or anything but the lights and the radio and everything turn on just fine what can be wrong
