We found that the wire was burnt and car had a terrible miss and service engine light came on. Could that plug wire have cause all the problem.

it may have come incontact with the exhaust manifold and it sat on it and burned it up.

You need to find the primary cause. Spark plug leads don't burn with the occassional touch. If the exhaust is on the spark plug side it maybe touching the exhaust manifold or you have an exhaust leak with the hot gases contacting the lead. If the exhaust is on the other side it maybe a fuel leak contacting the pluglead with some errent spark causing a little fire every now and then. If this is the case and it gets worse you could have a serious under bonnet fire. A fix is needed ASAP.

My first guess is that the wire was touching something hot like the manifold or exhaust

maybe it got on the exhaust,or it could be a surge.
