Would this be caused by a faulty radiator? surely the first signs would be the car overheating, then the head gaskets would have gone and then finally the oil and water would mix?

Thanks

No
The problem is more likely the other way around - a failed head gasket or warped cylinder head could cause pressure to escape into the cooling system, this may appear to as a fault to the radiator as it will over pressure and cause coolant to leak out through the radiator cap.
This would also cause low pressure on the cylinder.

If the radiator leaked, the engine would overheat. This could cause the cylinder head to warp, or the gasket to fail.

No a bad radiator cannot cause low compression on 1 cyclinder.

the rad has nout to do with compression it cools the water which circulates around the engine thus cooling it
if it was faulty it would overheat an cause other possible damage too

Radiator has nothing to do with compression
