Hi, I live in New England, so its freezing outside, and the heat in my van has stopped working. I don't have the money to go to the mechanics right now. I wonder if there is something I can do myself to fix it.. or some alternative until I can bring it in.. It is a 1999 Chevy Astro Van LS The air conditioner works fine, and I check the fluids all the time.. I noticed that it runs with the temp. gauge a little over the half way mark.. I do not know it that is normal.. And.. it tends to work sometimes when I am going on a long trip and the tank is full. But I not when I run errands all day.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A friend and I done some work on my brakes several weeks ago. Not too long after this I was having some stuff checked out by my mechanic and they couldn't find that special piece that fits over one lugnut from each wheel in order to remove it. I've looked quite a bit for it and still can't seem to find it. Any ideas? My car may not be in urgent need of it, but it'd be good to know my tires are changeable if needed.

I have a 1997 Buick Skylark Custom 4 door. It has 70,000 miles on it. I just bought it a couple weeks ago, and have tested this mileage on two full tanks of gas now. It only gets about 16mpg in the city. This just doesn't seem right for a 4 cylinder engine. My piece of crap 1994 Dodge Caravan gets 19 mpg in the city and that's a minivan with a horrible running 6 cylinder. So anyway, I talked to a mechanic briefly and he said that if something was wrong with it that the check engine light should be on. He also said it would cost $80 just to give it a diagnostic check or whatever. Any suggestions on what might be wrong with it or what I should do? Thanks!

My Car is Geo Prism 1997 1.6 L. The odometer is 129000. I had changed the Timing Belt when the odometer was 70000 miles (in Dec 2002). As per the geo service manual it should be done at every 60000 miles. So it is due for Timing Belt change now.
But my friends advised me that it need not be done at 60000, and can be wait upto 80000 miles which means I can wait till the odometer is 150000.
What harm can happen if the Timing Belt Breaks for Geo Prism? My friends have told me that for some cars, if the Timing Belt breaks, the car stops and no other harm happens to the engine and other parts while in some cars it can damage the engine (the valves of the engine bends so the engine has to be replaced)
Should I wait till the odometer is 150000?
