I want to get a six speed transmisssion for my 96 328is, where can I get one, or should I, would it be worth it.

Gear ratios are calculated carefully and matched with an engine based on the engine's power characteristics.
Leave the 6-speed out until you can really afford a BMW that comes with a 6-speed transmission; or it could be a very expensive mistake...

Just leave it alone. The transmission was designed for your car and engine, and the BMW engineers know much more about such matters than you, your buddies, people on internet messageboards, or the kid at the local custom shop.

junk yard,Local Newspaper, a pick-n-pull junk yard are very handy at finding what ever you need and probably have one sitting on a shelf.Or they will do a search for one and find what you need.
