I have an estimate of $1500 and kbb.com finds it's worth to be $ 4-6,000. I Just hope to get another 3-5 years out of it. 147,000 miles, but I now have only a 10 mile round trip to work.

it is not worth it. A friend of mine, former VW sales told me those 97-04 VW are notorious with electrical problems, and dealer charges a fortune for measly stuff. Sell it and get it over with.

it probably is,but what i would do is get an estimate on how much the repair would be before i had it done, sometimes, the repairs can add up to more than the car is worth,it probably wouldn't be on that car,but it would be a good idea to have an estimate done on it anyway, just to be sure, good luck on it.

Impossible to answer. What is the problem, you can't go to a repair shop and ask "how much to fix my electrical system".

It depends on what the problem is. It is very likely that its just a sensor that has gone bad, or maybe you have a short somewhere.
