I am 19 years old and a first time car buyer. I head on over to the Toyota dealership on the hunt for a Corolla. I've always loved Corollas but I've heard the 05s and 06s have had some troubles. Anyway. I found a new '06 for $16.326. After browing around a little more, I saw a Yaris.. and it was just too darn cute. It was new also (261 mi.), a 2007 (of course) and was going for $15,980.

THEN - I saw a 2006 Scion xA with 3,507 miles with an unkown price. I'm not too familiar with Scions but is it worth a test drive?

Anyone's advice would help! I am looking for reliabilty, first and formost. Something that will be worth something in the future so when I decide to sell it (after ATLEAST 7-8 years) it'll bring back some.

Thanks!

I have a 1985 volvo I have been trying to get road ready. I have put in a new battery and run it every couple days so it won't die in the meantime. I am getting 4 tires i will need mounted, the fluids changed to get it ready for smog and now while running it today, i noticed a hole in the bottom of the muffler (?) - where the tail pipe comes out of and it's dripping the same reddish/orange fluid that comes out of the tailpipe when you start your car(which I was told is normal). Clearly, there is not supposed to be a hole there and it drips the fluid rapidly when running. So, is it safe to run it to keep it alive and where can I go to get everything fixed at once, that's inexpensive yet reliable - since I need so much done, I'm hoping for a deal. On a tight budget and this could really screw my plan to get the car on the road in the next month! It would be Carlsbad area...I don't want to take it far b/c of the damn drip. Any suggestions wpuld be great!

When I did it I couldnt have been moving more then 5-7mph and my car only went about 10 feet but I heard an awful clicking noise. As soon as I heard then noise i was able to get it back to drive and when I stopped and put it into park it seemed to be fine. I have a '97 GMC Jimmy if that makes any difference. Please help.

I have a 1986 Ford Ranger 4x4, 2.9, V6. I tried starting it, and it acted like it was going to start, then COMPLETELY lost ALL power. I had the battery tested, which ended up being "good."

I realize that it could be a wiring problem. But, is there anything else it could be?

What is the least costly way to troubleshoot this? Do you know of any good sites, or advice to give me?

I greatly appreciate it. I am a single mother, and need a vehicle.

Thanks, Shannon

In other words, do you burn more gas if you're:

1) Travelling at 50mph @ 3000rpm vs 50mph @ 5000rpm?
2) Travelling at 80mph @ 4000 rpm vs 30mph @ 7000 rpm?

Because I've always wondered how is it possible that city mileage is lower than highway mileage. I've always thought that travelling at higher speeds would burn more gas (ex. highway driving), but I was surprised to find out that city mileage actually gets worse mileage despite lower average speed. Can someone please explain why?
