I am 19 years old and a first time car buyer. I head on over to the Toyota dealership on the hunt for a Corolla. I've always loved Corollas but I've heard the 05s and 06s have had some troubles. Anyway. I found a new '06 for $16.326. After browing around a little more, I saw a Yaris.. and it was just too darn cute. It was new also (261 mi.), a 2007 (of course) and was going for $15,980.

THEN - I saw a 2006 Scion xA with 3,507 miles with an unkown price. I'm not too familiar with Scions but is it worth a test drive?

Anyone's advice would help! I am looking for reliabilty, first and formost. Something that will be worth something in the future so when I decide to sell it (after ATLEAST 7-8 years) it'll bring back some.

Thanks!

I realize they're the same company, I'm just wondering with model is better, Scion XA, Corolla or Yaris?

Check out the price of replacement parts for both. Which ever would be cheaper to keep up in the long run would be my pick. Good luck!

From my personal experience with Toyota cars, I strongly
suggest that you buy the new Corolla 2006 without hesitation.
The reason is simply that the Corollas have been in the market
for a long time and they are already tested for their reliability,
durability, good performance, economy on fuel intake and safety features.
In the long run, the Corollas have proven over and over again
to be the least problematic car in its own class. Besides, it's
popular and has a high resale value in the car market.

Although the Yaris is much more stylish, modern and more
expensive compared with the Corolla, it has not been in the market that long to prove it's worth or advantage over the Corolla.
However, the Scion is similar to the Yaris which have not
proven it's worth over the Corolla.

Toyota is a good car. Scion is just if you like to transform your car with different after market parts.

By the way, in 7 or 8 years any car has almost no value ( I know a lot of dealers don't even accept them as a trade in or they give you almost nothing for it). But you have a good idea: to keep the car for a long time. Good for you.

Between the Yaris and Corolla, the Corolla, proven reliability. I hope the Yaris is not the same they used to sell in Europe some time ago.

I would personally take the Scion xA. It is a more flexible vehicle with seating for four (reasonable) and a hatch back. You should have good hauling capabilities especially needed for people your age who tend to move alot (I did until age 28). You can't go wrong with any of them though. My advice is to drive them all and go with the one that you think you would use the most. Don't make the mistake of buying something that you will need to trade in 2 years from now.

I recently bought a Toyota Matrix R and its a great car. Its pretty fast and gets great gas mileage but what I like most is the seats all fold down so I can carry almost anything. You should at least test drive one to see what you think.

I know a lot about cars and you can't go wrong with Toyota or Honda. The scions are new, but if they are a toyota product, I would buy one. I like them a lot and they are reasonably priced.
