here is a list of things you can do to limit the amount of light dim...
1) upgrade the ground (battery to chasis & engine to chasis) make sure they ground are the same gage as your power for the amp.
2) upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
3) buy a second battery (a battery designed for quick drain & replenishment) and a battery isolator so the system is powered strictly off of the rear battery.
4) buy a capacitor... the theory is 1 farad per 1000 watts.
doing all of these will limit the amount of dimming dramatically

The bass slams a huge amount of energy into your speakers and simultaneously temporarily drains the car battery so your headlights dim. Find a seperate power supply. Or keep it cause it looks cool.

The alternator output is less than the demands your car has; you would have to either reduce the amount of power you're using by using a smaller amp or lower wattage headlights or you could get a bigger alternator to keep up with the amount of power it's using.

Because the power required to produce the bass draws more electricity from your car's electrical system. You're car's power regulator (normally located within the alternator) is not sufficient to handle the power required by the stereo system.

You need to learn the WATTAGE formula:
If you got a 1,000 watt speaker system, you divide the watts by the volts supplied. In this case it's 12 volts.
1,000 watts divided by 12 volts = 83.3333 amps.
A lot of "stock" car alternators are 30 or 40 amp maximum output. I've seen a lot of burnt-up alternators/regulators with this problem.

That must B a LARGE MOUTH BASS 2 dim the Headlights {omg} Your subARU ALTERNATOR PROBABLY doesn't have enough AMPS.They aren't designed 4 Goofy noise makers.AND U probably need a few batteries with MANY amps ! not a stock Battery !

I suggest trying the big 3 first. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124175
It worked wonders for me. Also a Cap is useless unless your altenator can handle it by itself. A cap is desined to help for a temporary second while the alt is building the power.
When i had a 1000 watt system my lights never went dim and all I did was the big three.

best way to fix this is make sure u have a good ground and buy a bigger alternator. I have a 1500 watt 2 channel direct audio amp that draws so much power my original alternator caught on fire. all I did was buy a heavy duty alternator and no worries since then

subs use an extreme amount of power. i use a capacitor in my car and it eliminates any dimming and i have a 3000 watt system. There easy to install and well worth the money
