The notice says to read the owners manual but I didn't get one with the car. Does anyone know the what is special about the filling of this rad?

what they mean most of the time is to make sure you don't get burned.

There is the possibility that if you drain and refill the radiator that the cooling system will have some air in it causing hot spots where the coolant won't be able to cool the motor. If you look at the thermostat housing there should be a nut or something that you can loosen up and it allows air to escape while you are fllling the radiator/coolant recovery tank.

The notice on most chevy's for the radiator is that you should use a dexcool approved coolant because the radiator in chevrolet is made differently than other models and certain coolants can deteriate the aluminum they are made out of. If your still not sure about it call a local chevy dealer and ask them about it. They should be able to help you out.

If you don't follow the instructions, you'll end up with an air pocket in the heads that will cause the engine to overheat and at the least blow head gaskets and at the worst ruin the engine.

hello if you are just topping up your rad because it is a little low don't worry about any special procedure's.
