transmission fluid should be a dark red and not smell burnt. minimal regular maintenance is 45k to 60k miles. you should have a trustworthy garage service your transmission which should include a new filter, fluid, and gasket and probably cost about 100.00 depending on your area and garage. if it is still shifting fine chances are you have avoided damage so far.

Unfortunately, being that it's a ford, and a sable at that, I have found that changing the fluid will only cause you to have to rebuild it. This is very costly, around 1400 dollars maybe more depending on the shop you go to. The burnt smell comes from the clutches wearing out, usually from lack of service. A transmission is supposed to be serviced every 40,000 miles. Most people do not do this. They wait until the trans starts slipping or until the fluid is burnt and is real dark. If the trans is not slipping at this point do nothing. By removing the fluid now you also remove all the debris that is causing the friction in the transmission making the clutches to work. If you change the fluid you remove this and cause it to start slipping.

No, don't change it have it changed. AND, make sure the place that changes it changes ALL the fluid. There is 4-5 quarts in the tranny drain pan and another 9 or so that has to have a tranny pump to remove it. Also, the burned smell should be brought to their attention. This means the transmission has overheated. it may have damaged the tranny, they can tell by driving it (probably). I would pay the extra $ and have a reliable transmission place do the work. (1) they know what they are doing and (2) hopefully, they will be honest with you.--That's why I said "reliable" even if they don't know what they're doing--they're still WAY smarter about the tranny than you are.Plus if they're crooks, they have practiced the pitch.

seems such as you want a clean transmission. Are right here issues occurring? a million. once you shift right into a kit, it takes a on an identical time as for the kit to unquestionably kick in 2. once you start up from a quit (like at a pink gentle) the vehicle takes slightly in the previous it starts shifting? 3. once you're making use of, the engine revs in the previous kicking into the subsequent kit if so, get your vehicle to an outstanding transmission save. the extra serious the transmission gets, the extra serious those indications will become. the faster you get it regarded at, the fewer that is going to cost you. i'm undecided what state you reside in although some states have a "lemon regulation" that protects used vehicle clientele. you have gotten long gone over the time decrease yet you may examine it out besides. additionally, attempt to take the vehicle back to the place you acquire it and see in the event that they'll fix it. that is properly worth a try. sturdy success to you.

Yes replace your fluid and filter immediately. Check your owners manual for your scheduled maintanence in miles. It should tell you how often any of your engines fluids and filters should be replaced.
