I have spent over $8000. and now the
transmission is out. Cost $3500. Automatic trans. Only 4 1/2 yrs old truck
A total lemon 2001 F250. We only use
professional (dealers) for repair had two
professionals check out and they both said it was the transmission and the cost is around $3500 to $3700 for new transmission. We do not use rebuilt parts. This truck is so well kept.. It just is a lemon as for as mechanical problems. Too many for its age and too major for its age and mileage. Even the dealers say it has had more problems than usual. Anyone else with problems with their 2001 F250 diesel?

Believe me, it's WORTH the money you've put into it to keep for a few years, if you need a truck like that for pulling heavy loads. The 2003 to 2004 equipped with the 6.0L diesels are MUCH WORSE. If you've got the 7.3L stick with it for a few years. They are MUCH more reliable than the 6.0L. About the only thing on this engine that can leave you stranded on the side of the road would be a cam sensor. This can be changed on the side of the road with a 10mm wrench in hand in less than ten minutes. The same DEFINITELY can't be said for the 6.0L!!!

Not sure why you have spent that much money in it, but they are good trucks. Why do you have to spend $3500 for a tranny? You can get an auto rebuilt for $1700. A stick shift if you know where to get a good replacement for about $1200.

Well, after dumping this much money into it, hopefully you've fixed most of the trouble. Now it's time to drive out the equity, or take a really big loss on a trade in, your choice..
