If you look in the corner of the window where the manufacturer puts it's name, PPG, Autolight, ect. it will tell you if it is factory tint. if it doesn't say then it's not factory. Another way to tell if you can't find the wording is to pull back the inside of the door panel at the top and you will see the line of tint if you see this, it is after market tint. Factory tint is sandwiched inside the glass. Aftermarket is outside the glass on the inside of the car.

Go to a window tint shop or the dealer and ask. If it is factory tint, you need a letter from the dealer stating this fact, and if it is not factory, then the tint shop can remove it from the windows that need to be clear, ie the drivers window and the rear window. The letter from the dealer or the bill from the tint shop will be proof for court.

in states that it is not legal, the highway patrol has a meter they use that emits a light beam and compares how much light gets through the glass to how much was emitted.this gives you an exact percentage of tint

in order to get an inspection sticker in most places the tint has to be legal. go have your car inspected then take the reciept with all the check marks for legality on the inspection form to the d.a. and ask them to throw it out of court

Take your cars VIN# to the parts Dept. at any GM dealership and ask them to do a VIN RPO search on their catalog system. They can identify what level of tint came on the car.
