A friend of mine is ready to file for chapter 13. He started using a credit card he has never used before. His attorney suggested not to pay for it and the card is listed among the other items he is claiming under bankruptcy. He wants to keep this credit card just in case he needs it in an emergency. Can he still pay the minimum payment so as to keep it even though it is listed in the claims that the attorney has?

I see a lot of offers for "free" credit reports but they are never really free. I am figuring that since the credit score is just a useless number it would be just as good to have people here give me my credit score. I will average out the answers and use that as my credit score.

Should he buy before we get married. my low FICO is due to past charge offs that are about 5 yrs old. We would probably qualify for more money if my salary were included, but we don't want to be paying ridiculous interest.....oh we are looking at houses around 120,000

Just wondered if anyone else has dealt with this sleazy company, and if the results were good. I sent a letter certified telling them to validate my debt or cease and desist contacting me or pursuing the debt. Any other ideas from someone who's dealt with these people? I also don't talk to them on the phone, they are RUDE, RUDE, RUDE and you don't get anywhere.

I came into hard times and lost my job a few years ago. Things have gotten better and I am in a better financial state so now I am trying to work on clearing up my credit. I recently pulled my credit report and I saw the Providian Mastercard still on there but it said the balance is $ 0, and the words "account closed by grantor". Then a few rows down I see a collections agency that bought my debt and the balance is now showing $8,500. 3 years ago, when I owed Providian, the balance was for $5,300 so I guess they are trying to tack on late fees, collection fees and whatnot. I heard that I should just wait and let it fall off my credit because if I try to pay it now, it will still look bad on my credit report because they will show the reporting date from the day I talked with them and try to keep it on there longer. Should I talk to the collections agency and try to negoicate with them and pay it off or should I just ignore the calls and let it fall off of my credit report in 3 years?

I'm the leaseholder at my apartment. I moved out. I gave my roommmate 60 days to get out. He didn't, so when I left, I changed the locks (he has no proof that he ever lived there, so he can't come after me).
My question is, if he breaks into the apartment, he'll be trespassing, and can be charged with such, right?
I am gone, I've turned in the keys, and let them know that he was giving me trouble, but he left. I can't possibly be evicted at this point, can I? I would hate for that to show up on my credit, when it's his fault.

Hey guys... thought I'd ask this here, I got a credit card about two years ago and just about four months ago I hit a financial road block and have been unable to make much payments. They sent me to collections recently and they have (collection agency), understandably, been calling a lot, however I explained my situation many times but they do not stop calling.

Just recently they have been calling my girlfriend's house and I am not sure HOW they got her number. Her number is not listed which is even weirder. They call once every two weeks or so though. I did not put it on my card application because I was not with her at the time.

Do you know how this collection agency coulda got her number? And how I could get them to stop calling there?

Critic Collection has been taking money straight from my bank account. I have no outstanding debts and I can't find ANY info on this agency. My bank tells me all they have is this name. I had to close out my bank account because of this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I recieved 2 credit card applications in the mail for a CitiBank MasterCard. I don't have any credit at all and I've applied for a couple cards and been rejected, so I'm weary about sending in one of these applications because I know it looks bad on your credit to apply for a lot of cards. So are these just an ad or will I really get a card??

I had had several Hospital visits, and also several denied Credit Card applications (probably because I was under Student Visa and I did NOT have a full time job and permanent address in the US) before I was finally able to pay them off by around April 2006 then I bought a car through a dealership soon after that.

The dealership was so great that they were able to find me a Bank willing to do me an Auto Loan. That's what gives me a Credit Score.

But I've heard that in order to raise my Credit Score quickly, I would need Revolving credit- which is from a Credit Card

Now I've a Full time Job, and working under a working visa... and awaiting for my Green Card...but with my Credit Score of 597, Do you think I'd be able to obtain one?

If so, which bank should I start with? Are there any Bank that would easily approve a case like mine?

What happened to the remaining amt and how will this reflect on my credit report? Also. another creditor that I have, sold the acct to a collection agency and the amt that they are trying to collect is for a much higher amt, almost double. Can this happen? I will never be able to pay this off.
