I was recently deployed to Iraq. Before that I was deployed to Cuba, both for a year plus. Because of the deployment, i was forced out of my gym contracts with Bally's Total Fitness. Both times Ballys first refused to stop my automated deductions but then, after threating lawsuits, they let up. Now because of this mess with Bally's, my credit score has dropped 130 points since my last credit check 2 years ago. Its the only negative score on the report. Now because of this, when i refinance in a month, I will be getting a horrible rate. Is there anything i could do about this?

I have the record of all the checks that I mail to pay my bills. In addition, I carry a large balance on that card, and I have ALWAYS made the payments (double the minimum payment) on time. I thought i finally had paid it off, but then a bill came for $15; I didn't think much of it and mailed a check for $15. Next thing I know, I received another bill for $15 + late fee + my new APR (29.99% !). I called Chase, and after being given the run around, I was able to get in touch with a "manager", who was able to remove the late fee. They weren't, "unfortunately" able to do anything about the new APR, since "it is controlled by their computers". Is there anybody I can write to or speak to? I've had their card for several years, and NEVER been anywhere close to being late with a payment.

My husband and I have really bad credit. We both were in previous marriages and that is were it all started. He has a foreclosure on his credit report because his ex decided she wanted to keep the house after they split and then she didn't make the payments so they forclosed on it. This messed him up as well and it shows on his credit report. They almost foreclosed on mine but I was able to sell it before that happened. On my credit report it shows I was late a lot of time. We pay $700.00 a month for rent and that's like throwing money away. We don't know what to do about this. Are mtg companies easy to work with than the bank? I forgot to mention that his first mtg was a VA loan. Will they consider him for a loan again? Does anyone know the answer to this question?

I have about 7500 in credit card debt. I know this may not seem like a lot to some people, but I'm only 24 and I bought a truck that I probably shouldn't have and the payments on that are what's killing me. I've decided that the last thing I want to do is get rid of the truck. I have fallen behind on some of my payments and am acquiring late fees and higher interest rates, and my credit is being shot to hell in a hurry. I have applied for several personal loans to pay off my credit cards and get one lower monthly payment, but I've been denied every time because of my poor credit. I don't really want to go through a credit counseling service yet, because that shows up on my credit report and will further reduce my score. I have worked thorugh my budget with a fine tooth comb and I've done calcualting with differnt loan terms/interest rates/etc. and I know I can afford one, but how do I get one? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I live in CA, so if anyone has any info regarding statutes and what not, that would be great! I know they can't sue me for it and it's not on my record, but I need to pay it off (don't ask why, I just do). Does anyone have any legitimate and helpful information on this? In CA, by just contacting my original creditors, will I be starting the statutes of limitations over again? I desperately need some advice. Thanks

I got a bill in the mail today from a collection agency from a bill I had never seen, though I recognized the original billing company. When I called the collection company they said they had bought the company's old debt, and that this debt was from July 1997. I then called the original company and after some searching they found that it was an old bill from my husband's first house, originally billed on July 18, 1997. When I asked them why this is the first time in nine years that we've seen anything on it, even when we bought our house in 1999 (and a $60 bill showed up from somebody else on his credit) it didn't show up. I was told it was written off, and that we never saw it because it was never pursued. Can they still come after us for this after nine years (and this is the first correspondence for this debt)?

is my husband responsible for my credit card if i cant pay and he is not on it? i lost my job in 2001 and they said last payment was in 2001. recently they have been calling here. they said they sent out 3 letters which i never recieved and i asked for another so i could see options offered and she refused to send another. a credit card went from a $1,000 card to $3300.00 in charges. i have no income at all. no car, no job. my husband works but he doesnt have that kind of money either. they wont work with me. all i asked for was a letter showing what they were offering and she wouldnt do it. i said guess it'd be cheaper to file bankruptcy then she said you cant i said yes i can. i read the new laws and about counceling and etc first. i guess what i want to know is if i do file will they go after my husband then?

While back in college, I left a cable bill unpaid. It went to a collection agency. It is for a minimal amount of $122.62. It has now been 4 years since it showed up on my credit report. After reading many different answers, I am unsure as to how to proceed. Besides this one deliquency, I do not have any marks on my credit report.

1. I can pay for the debt. It will still show up as a deliquency and will probably keep showing up on my credit reports for the next 7 years after I paid it. (just read that they can keep it on my report for seven years after the last payment)

2. Don't pay it, live with the bad credit for the next 3 years until it is wiped off my report.

Not sure what to do. Thanks in advance.

I paid my mortgage online on the 31st of last month. So it was late, but not 30 days late. I was checking my bank account online, an the payment had not gone through yet. I had printed out my reciept, like I always do, and I realized i pressed 'print' but not 'submit'. So my payment was never taken out!! Before I figured it out, I called my mortgage company and asked them to look into why my account was not debited. They will call me back tomorrow, and I will explain what happened. Can they change it? I am trying to pay everything on time, as my credit is poor from being stupid in my college years.
Help!!

I was just getting ready to call Visa up to cancel my credit card since I don't use/need it anymore, but today I received my new card in the mail. If I don't renew it, will I get in any sort of trouble with Visa? I was just wondering since this may save me some time with them over the phone.
