To many people, credit cards are spending money they wish they had.

However, a credit card or two can be useful and practical if not abused. I'd suggest getting a Discover, Visa and one of the American Express cards.
This way you'll be set for car rentals, travel, hotels, etc.
But a few words of caution:
1>>only use them when you need to.
2>>become aware of the Anual Percentage Rate of each card.
3>>pay off your balances as soon as you can.
Your "excellent credit score" can quickly equate into a credit nightmare that will take you many years to finally wake up from if not managed in a mature, adult fashion.

Don't get a credit card. I have used my debit card for hotels, airlines and everything else a credit card can do. Plus every penny I make I can spend. Cut out the middle man, just say no!!!

Bobsdidi is right. Make it a debit card instead. Dave Ramsey calls it playing with snakes. No matter how careful you are, someday you will get bit.
