I paid my mortgage online on the 31st of last month. So it was late, but not 30 days late. I was checking my bank account online, an the payment had not gone through yet. I had printed out my reciept, like I always do, and I realized i pressed 'print' but not 'submit'. So my payment was never taken out!! Before I figured it out, I called my mortgage company and asked them to look into why my account was not debited. They will call me back tomorrow, and I will explain what happened. Can they change it? I am trying to pay everything on time, as my credit is poor from being stupid in my college years.
Help!!

You can do one of two things. You can either request a dispute with your mortgage company and see if there is a way they can avoid reporting it, siting that it was just an error. But, often companys aren't willing to do this, because they automaitcally report deliquincies and actually have little control over what goes out. What you made need to do, is wait until it actually goes on your credit report and then dispute it with the credit bureau. They then contact the company and see if this an excusable issue. Usually it only takes a few weeks to clear up, and if they agree it'll be off your credit report in just a few days. But start with the company directly, maybe write a letter or something and see what they can do. Especially if you haven't done anything like this in the past, and have a good history with them, most companies are usually willing to waive at least one late payment, and help a person out once in a while. Just be honest and professional and submit a request.

It's not likely they will change it. It is your responsibility to make your payments on or before the due date. The fact you did not press the "submit" is unfortunate but it is your error and it did result in a late mortgage payment. On the other hand being a few days late just 1 time on your debt should not have any major adverse affect on your overall credit rating. Your unsatisfactory credit history from your college years will cause you the most problems. If you do apply for credit remember these unsatisfactory ratings will show up for several years. You should tell the potential lender about them up front and explain it was from those college years and you now take your debts very seriously. Lenders aren't heartless, but if you don't say anything until; after they look at your credit report don't expect a lot of sympathy. Good luck.

They "can" change it - if they want to.

Just explain what happened and (hopefully this is your first late with them) tell them that it was a mistake on your part, how much you enjoy doing business with them (yeah schmooze em a bit) Tell them that you have been working hard to keep a good record with them etc., etc., etc.

Don't believe them if they say it can't be done, because it can. If the person you are talking to won't do it, either ask to speak to the supervisor or call back and speak to some one else.

I agree with echo. They furnish the information to the credit reporting agency so they can update how the please. I see no reason why this should not work.
