I've been out of work almost 4 years taking care of my kids and now I'm planning on going back to work. Is there a way to say I've been a full time mom on my resume so companies realize what I've been doing since my last job? I don't know what the acceptable standard is for this kind of lapse in work.

I found out yesterday that I am being laid off. Although I was shocked, it is no surprise that the company has not been doing well. They have been having a hard time retaining clients and then the owner decided that she wanted to take the company in a diffrent direction. Anyway, the would like for me to stay on until the end of this month and they don't mind if I utilize my working hours to seek employment. They offered me three week severance pay and three weeks medical.

Is this a good deal. I've never been fired or laid off before, so I'm not sure what I should expect.

I'm graduating with a finance degree in two years, and am quite unsure of which area of the country i'd like to make a living, at least initially.

I've lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area my entire life, but i'd love to experience a change of venue.

I'm considering the following cities, all obviously have their financial pro's/cons, etc etc. but what do yall think would be an awesome place to start out of the following cities/locations?

San Francisco, Phoenix, Chicago, New york City, Florida, Seattle.

Any rec's/advice? thanks.

My payday is always every Friday for the week before, and my company, as big as it is, does not offer direct deposit. There was a mixup last week that was caught on Wednesday(9/12). The error was sent to payroll and my check was to be overnighted.
Tomorrow (Wednesday 9/19) will be day 5 with no paycheck and they cant say if it will be there then too (more mix ups). I have a truck payment that was due LAST friday(9/14) and although they are holding off on reposessing my vehicle, thank God, they are expecting late fees.
How long can the company go without giving me my check, and can I make them responsible for the late fees? I cant afford late fees, which is why I ALWAYS pay on time and this isnt my fault!

I really want to do proof reading for ANY kind of company. I didnt get a degree though I plan to finally start college this January and pursue it. Is there any chance I could score a job that will let me do this kind of work before I obtain my degree or am I stuck working dead end jobs until that day happens?

I am currently going to college to earn a degree in pyschology. after my BS eventually I would naturally go on to get my masters and PhD, that's the goal and that's the plan. but by that time I achieve that goal. (believe me I will). I would be probably at the age of 27 and I would like to start my family then.

The problem.... If I am to have a doctorate or even masters right out of graduate school, how can i start my family? I would not want to wait until after Im 30. but I would like to jump start my career as well, I do realize that it would take me a while to establish myself among those in the same profession.

I would like suggestions on career paths that I can research in my line of study that would permit me to have a family.

and I would like some first or second accounts of women who have "done it all"

Thanks

I wouldn't mind accounts from men but men don't carry babies for 9 months and go thru all the things career women do.

I just started with a large retailer a couple months ago as a management trainee. I have over two years of retail experience before this.

Yet, the vibe I am getting from my manager is that I don't seem happy. I will say I do not have much of a relationship with the store manager and the rest of management as well. I take no breaks and work my butt off, which is what I thought the company wanted, but appearently not as I am having trouble with the political aspects of my job. My store manager did say that I am ok.

Or maybe I am no longer meant to work in retail and need to eventually look for another job. The comapny often transfers people so there is a chance I won't be at the store I am at much longer.

Problem is, it is out ofm y area of specialty. (I am a therapist). I completed a master's degree to specialize in clinical services, yet my company doesn't have anything available except this administrative position.
Then last week, before my promotion negotiations were completed, I was offered an interview with a new organization that would pay a tad bit more than the new salary and would allow me to do the work I studied 6 years for. I took the interview and it went great, and expect a job offer this week. My question is, how would I then go back and tell my company that not only do I not want the promotion but I am leaving? I feel loyalty to my current company and the job is GREAT, but it's not really what I want to do.
One last thing is a lot of people assisted in me getting this offer, and I don't have the heart to disappoint them. I'm torn on this, so any suggestions are welcomed.

I just started a new job and I'm also in college. Normally when I came home I would rest for a bit then work on homework. But now, when I get home, 4 hours later then normal, I'm burned out. I'm sore all over and tired to the point that I can't even pay attention to homework. I'm going to have even more college hours next semester and I don't think I can keep this up.
I work at an auto parts store by the way. So I am having to lift stuff and be on my feet constantly. That's what I will be doing all the time for now on. Will this get easier or am I possibly going to have to give it up?
