At my current job the company needs people to start working Saturdays. As you can imagine, none of us are thrilled about the idea of having to work Saturdays. There are four other employees that do my same job. Most of them have kids. That stated, I feel I am being pressed to pick up the Saturday shifts. No, I don't have the obligations that come along with having children but I don't feel this should be a factor and feel somewhat discriminated against. If I have seniority, shouldn't that take precedence? I would like some opinions.

I have a cold, and therefore a very hoarse voice. It's for an over the phone customer service position. I'm going to take halls to suck on and try not to make that smacking noise, but I don't know if anything else will help the fact that this isn't my voice right now and I think it will effect my ability to get the job. It shows that when I'm sick I'll still show up, but I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Help! I need someone else's opinion. Wish me luck! Thank you

A manager in another department came to ask me that he is looking for a person and ask me if I was interested. And I'm interested since the pay is better. But, the thing is my current boss wants me to stay in his department since he knows I have more potential then what I'm currently doing and I can support him all that he needs. What's the best way to handle this?

Hi,

I have had minor surgery and am fine now. I do however need 4-5 weeks of radiotherapy to make sure all cancerous cells are gone. My employer have asked for permission to write to my doctor having full access to my medical records under the access to medical reports act 1988. I don't want my employer to have access to my medical records nor do I want to be examined by the company doctor. I feel this is personal. What are my rights regards my employment??? They want proof that I am fit to work but I am and want the right to just come to work without them knowing all my personal medical details. Please help as I'm very stressed by it???????

Thanks xx

I just graduated and recently, I got a great paying sales job. This job is the only thing that I can be proud of. My friends used to think I wont be able to achieve much in life due to the way I used to behave, partying, etc. But now, I am trying my best to clean up my act. I worked hard to go through a degree and my friends paid money to 'buy' themselves a degree. Now one of them is complaining that she is not earning enough(which is true) and is depressed. Now, my corp is hiring and I introduced her somehow half of me wish that she will get the job and the other half of me is reluctant. One point is I do not wish to be snatching sales with her and the other reason is I do not want her to take away something that I could finally be proud of, to be earning a comfortable salary..She is quite well to do and I have study debts to clear. This is the first time that I have an hedge over my friends and somehow I feel quite selfish.. Am I a bad friend? Shd I continue to help her to get the job

I have 2 children and no babysitter. I really want to find a way to work from home because I am sick of feeling like I am not helping my husband by supporting my family. Besides that we are all sick of living paycheck to pay check we want to move but don't have enough money and all of the places that I have found to work from home you have to pay for. All I am asking for is to get a job to work from home and help support my family, it's not that I am lazy I just don't have the extra cash to pay for a babysitter. Please give me a website or help me to figure out something. Thanks for all your help!

I have a big purse. I have a lot of stuff in it, but the important things, I keep up front and are easy to get to, but do employers look at my purse and think I'm carrying to much "baggage" and might call off a lot or think other things like that? Also, I don't wear makeup, do employers think that I'm lazy or with the combination of the purse and lack of make-up think I'm a mom that doesn't take care of herself and will be distracted from her job? I don't have kids, but I like to be prepared for anything, that's why I carry a big purse. I've been going to interviews and haven't had any leads, I've had a prefessional help me with my resume and I can't think of much else besides my deamenour (sp?) during the interview that might be turning them off. Do you think my big purse and l lack of make-up might be a "red flag"?

i'm having some thoughts of quiting my present job. i used to work for a private drug testing lab, admin. department. i used to have good benefits, higher pay, own office, computer & fone, full time hours & very nice people around me. it was very busy & stressful & management there really sucked so i decided to quit & then finally got a job at the city. my present job isn't my thing - all i do here is enter codes - not challenging AT ALL!!! i'm not even using the skills & knowledge that i've learned from school so its kinda useless for me & i'm not happy here. i always thought that working for the city is a great thing, but now i realized that this job that they offered me is not the one for me.

my boss (from my previous job) told me that i'm still welcome to come back to work for them if ever i change my mind. my co-worker told me that the girl they hired to replace me quit after 2 days of working there coz she can't do my job. should i go back to my previous job or not? help!!

I was fired on Monday 3/19/07. They told me they were firing me cause I didnt follow through on my work with the dealers (engineering company), I didnt keep up with paper work, I slacked, and didnt help to train new employees. 1st off I was an Accounts Receivable, I shouldnt have to train the news SALES REPS. If I didnt care about my work, then why did I find $400K that the last 2 A/Rs didnt place If I didnt care why did the aging reports go from 7pgs to 3 in a matter of 6 months and why did they give me a $1 raise last week??

I'm 99.9% sure they fired me because 1 of the bosses and I didnt get along. He would come to work High, steal company material, make sexual comments all the time, invaid personal space, and force people to talk to him. I feel because I complained about these things to the CEO (who is the Dad of this jerk) that they felt threatened that I'd complain to "Higher Powers". I dont feel that I was fired because of my preformance because I knew that I did my work 100%

The company I am working for right now is implementing a new time management system for hourly employees. I am wondering about the legality around this. Do we have to capture punch in and punch out times or is it sufficient to just capture hours worked and pay them accordingly? The new time management system does have the ability to record punch in/punch out, but I am wondering if our contingency plan (simple web based form for inputting hours worked) is legally sound.
Thanks
