I'm assuming that the Sys. Ad. job may be a higher level position in your company. If so, I say "go for it". The worst that can happen is that the company says "no". But if this is an internal position, it shows you are interested in moving in that direction and want that responsibility. Just be sure to talk to your bosses beforehand about this.

If this is an external position, again apply. Again, the worst they can say is "no". In either situation, be prepared - know exactly what the job will involve and how your current skill set is enough to cover the job responsibilities. The better you can answer their questions, the more likely you'll get the job or at least be considered in the future. Plus, interviewing will give you additional practice for the next Sys. Admin. job.
