I work for an accounting firm and have been here 8+ years. The work enviornment over the years has become quite stressful and has taken a tole on my health and well being. I need to nicely say thanks for the experience and I am moving on.

Dear Sir:

I am writing to inform you of my formal resignation effective in two weeks on (give day and date here).

Please inform me of any further obligations I may have before my termination.

Thank you,

(You owe no explaination or letter of gratitude.)

I've only had to use it twice, but I was pretty proud of my wording...

"I hereby tender my notice of resignation, effective immediately."

If you wish to work out the resignation, its customary to state, "I'm able to work two weeks from today's date to assist in the transition."

You do not need to explain anything, if you don't want to. Chances are, your boss won't pass the resignation around for people to read anyway.

You could say you appreciated your opportunities and time there but for other reasons you would like to move on and search out greener pastures.
