Living in the real world, it's nice to think that successful will follow you in everything that you love. But reality is, there are careers out there that just aren't marketable. I went to college with that pretense, that if I wanted it enough, I could make something out of it and be everything that aspired to be. I went into Cinematic Arts, hoping that one day I would make it big. Well, I having made a movie yet, and I am working as a Graphic Artist with no chance of EVER making a movie, because the bills came in. A person working the counter at McDonalds, no matter how much they love it, is never going to make as much as a Doctor. That's just logic.

Do what you want to do with your life, but with in reason. If you want to be well-off you have to aim high. You can shoot a target by just aiming in the general direction that you want the bullet to go. But, you have a better chance if you point the gun.

While it doesn't sound logical that "money will follow you" since so often it does not. Odds are if you do something just for the money, you will become so unhappy that you will eventually quite to pursue that "feel good" career. At that point it may be years later and you could have a longer road to the money. Conversely, if you do what makes you happy you will remain motivated and probably be more successful, both in terms of self-fulfillment and money. Besides, no matter what field you go into there will always be competitors who will be willing to pay more for an excellent employee.

You need a certain base, a threshold, to begin with: then, with that money invested and growing, you reach a small little summit from where you are in a position to say, "do what you like, money will follow!". And, from there, you get to do what you like: pick and choose things to do! Right from beginning, to be able to do what one likes and still have money flowing in, is possible (with some luck, yes, possible!), but not probable: you see a few people in that position, too. Most of such lucky ones are born with that proverbial silver spoon in mouth, that base, threshold already under them, for them to rest on, to rest assured of more money flowing in!

Go for the money first, the money may not be fulfilling, but will enable you to go after and achieve the things you most want and like.
Ultimately, with the right foundation, you can do what you like and the money will be there.
