I'm currently a desktop publisher at a Commercial Real Estate brokerage, but was wondering what other options there are with my background. I have a degree in Communication, minored in Literature, and a dream job would be to write and/or edit. What options other than being a starving artist are there?

Who are the people who contribute in the production of a new cell phone?(the design, the technology, etc.) What are they called? I want to say engineer, but I'm not sure if thats right. The reason why I want to know is because I have some cell phone designs that I have thought of and I can draw and I'm thinking about doing this when I grow up, but I need to know what area I should study when I get to college and what type of degree I should try to get. Just let me know what you think.

I am a junior in high school and love animals. I want to work with them as a career later in life. I was wondering whether or not I can work there and what kind of job could I get if can? Also, what should I wear when I go and ask if they have an opening?

why is it that ross(the store) does not hire anyone under 18, when the labor law states that anyone who is 16 can work in retail, food, or office occupation services. Which ross falls in the category of retail. Is this age discrimination?

I already advertise on Monster.com and craigslist with fairly decent results, but I am always looking for new ideas. Please don't suggest any of the "get rich quick" sites. My company is registered with the US Chamber of Commerce, National Health Alliance, dental associations, etc. We are NOT looking for the same people that are going to the get rich quick sites, but for assertive individuals with leadership qualities. Have any other employers out there had good results at any sites besides the ones above? I won't mention my company for fear of being accused of spam, but it is mostly internet work, with some customer service and paperwork.

I've worked with them for over a year now & have never asked for the paid vacation time I'm entitled to. This is my 1st time woking somewhere this long, so I don't know how to go about. My question is, how could I ask in the nicest, most general way through e-mail since that's how we communicate. Thanks a lot for your help!! :)

I want to go back to school to be a nurse more than anything in the world. I have the chance to go back this year. Well, my husband agreed but doesn't want me quitting my job(which I absolutely hate because I don't work in a hospital). I want to go back with no distractions. It's going to be hard enough having two children. I want to go full time and quit my job. The only reasons I was working were to keep my sanity, and to pay for my minivan. He starts a new job this week where he'll be making more money so the van payment won't be a problem. He'll be able to afford it. So, it will take 13 months if I go to school full time to get my degree. Would you quit and go to school full time or stay at a job where you will never get ahead and put your dreams on hold?

I was not feeling very well at work. I spoke to the scheduler and told her as soon as the shift was over I'd be heading to the ER and I would not be able to come in tomorrow. I work 16 hours Sat and Sun. I am also 31 weeks pregnant. The on call nurse that would have to cover my shift, asked me to call him and let him know if I could work. after i called him and said no, he said ok. three hours later he called the ER and told them he was my husband and he needed to talk to me NOW, because it was an emergency. I was given medication that made me woozy, so the nurse walked with me to the phone. I discovered it was the on call nurse from work. He told me I had to come work for the 2nd half of my shift. I hadn't even been released from the ER yet. I did go to work because I didn't want to lose my job and he is in a position of authority over mine. I was still intoxicated from my medication in the ER. I should not have been taking care of patients. Do I have any personal or privacy rights?

The atmosphere at my workplace is very cold and tense most times. I work in a big building in a small department of five people under one boss. Some days there's hardly a word spoken between us. Most times its because our boss seems mad or frustrated or something. What can I do to loosen things up a bit and get things a little more fun, and more of a positive working environment? Any suggestions? We work in a "creative department"...I thought that meant we are supposed to be in a not "chatty" environment, but friendly and creative....you know what I mean? What should I do? It's really awkward here!
