I've worked with them for over a year now & have never asked for the paid vacation time I'm entitled to. This is my 1st time woking somewhere this long, so I don't know how to go about. My question is, how could I ask in the nicest, most general way through e-mail since that's how we communicate. Thanks a lot for your help!! :)

Ask your HR department (or Finance if you don't have an HR department) if they have an official request form for time off. Most companies have those.

If they don't, just type up a note to your supervisor that says: "This is my official request to take xy and z off. Since this is the first time asking for time off I am unfamiliar with the proper protocol, please let me know what other information you need from me."

Your supervisor will probably take it from there.

just say: "I would like to plan a vaction for such and such a date, and I wondered If there were any conflicting dates at that time"? you have time coming, and as long as they wont be short handed, and you give at least a months notice, it shouldn't be a problem.
