I want to go back to school to be a nurse more than anything in the world. I have the chance to go back this year. Well, my husband agreed but doesn't want me quitting my job(which I absolutely hate because I don't work in a hospital). I want to go back with no distractions. It's going to be hard enough having two children. I want to go full time and quit my job. The only reasons I was working were to keep my sanity, and to pay for my minivan. He starts a new job this week where he'll be making more money so the van payment won't be a problem. He'll be able to afford it. So, it will take 13 months if I go to school full time to get my degree. Would you quit and go to school full time or stay at a job where you will never get ahead and put your dreams on hold?

Here's the catch...the place I work does weird shifts. I work 3 days on, 2 days off, then 2 days on, 3 days off. I won't ever have the same days of the week off. I was offering to go full time during the day for school, then work in the evenings if I have to. I'm not trying to get anyone to pick sides with my husband and I

If you have the opportunity to go, then do it. You'll regret it if you don't, or worse, you may end up resenting your family...We are in the same situation right now, but reversed. I am the one with the job and my husband has the opportunity to go back to school for a career change. it will be tough financially for a while, but his happiness in the long run will be worth it!!!

If you can handle it financially, do it! Quit the job, don't look back and go for the nursing career. Trust me, if you put it on hold, it may stay there. Thirteen months is not a long time in the whole scheme of life. Besides, when you're done, you'll have a great career that you love.

Good luck...I wish you all the best. ♥

None of the people who will answer this question will have to live in your home with your family. You're just looking to get us to line up with you against your husband. This is a bad idea. The two of you need to come to a conclusion of consensus between the two of you where you both listen to one another. His reasons are as good as I'm sure yours are. Work through this together incorporating both of your objectives as much as possible - the whole situation will go so much better if you do.

Good Luck,
Dana B.

This is not a question that anyone can answer except you and your husband. Marriage is a partnership and sometimes one partner has to give up something for the other. You two need to set down and talk this out yourselves. It doe's not matter what any of us out here think.

I would quit. My wife did the same. She now is working in the field she enjoys, has more time to spend with the kids and loves what she does. Happy wife...happy life. Besides, it's only for one year. He should give you the opportunity to explore and do what you enjoy as a career.

I think you've answered your own question hun! Look at your last sentence...obviously you want to go to school. So DO IT! You only live once! You can do it. Just explain to your husband how much you want this...more than anything! It's ok! He will be ok with it, trust me. If he isn't then maybe you should question why....but listen to me and go for it. You will regret it if you don't!
