I recently (2 months ago) got a new job and it should be a dream come true: 10 minutes from home, good hours (9-5:30 and I get an hour for lunch), I can wear whatever I want (jeans, etc) and I don't have to deal with the public, great money, it's not corporate and very laid back. Then why am I not happy? I am missing my old job-which was the total opposite plus I had the boss from hell. I dread going to work every day now. I keep thinking that it's because I am still learning and it's still new but I'm not sure. I just don't feel comfortable there and I think that part of it is the way our desks are set up: we are all in one section all next to each other and I like to have my privacy. It's like everyone can hear what everyone is saying on the phones-which is why it's like that-but it's makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't even like eating at my desk...like if I want an apple or something and I donno what my problem is! I should be happy, right?

When I was hired, I was told that 8 hrs/day was required (not including lunch) and that I would be paid per widget only (not by the hour nor for overtime, for that matter). But once employed, I find out that I'm REQUIRED to work OT on some weeks. Several weeks ago, they required 4 hours OT so I worked 1 hour extra (9 hour days) for 4 days M-Th, and on Friday we were sent home several hours early because machinery was down and we couldn't work. But I find out that those 4 hours of OT I put in didn't even fully count as OT -- they simply used them to count for time lost on that Friday when machines were down, so they are telling me that I need to work more to make up my "4 hr mandatory OT." Is this even legal? I mean, I'm only paid per widget to begin with and I don't even take a lunch break. Something just isn't right.

I was layed off from work 3 weeks ago. Since that day I have put my resume in everywhere in this city. I have faxed at least 40 resumes out to people, not to mention the numerous ones I have submitted by email. I am also with temp agencies. I am skilled as a receptionist & am willing to do anything clerical. There doesn't seem to be any jobs in this area altho in the paper there seem to be plenty. I have applied to them all, even some that I know I wasn't qualified for. Am I doing something wrong ? My resume is clear & concise. I need to pay bills & it is affecting my marriage now because my husband has also been out of work the last 3 weeks. He can't find a job either. What in the world do I do about paying rent, electric, phone, & all the things you would need to survive ? I'm in the Lancaster, Pa. area. I am open to any suggestions. I don't know how else to go about getting a job with my skills other than what I have already done.

Do many people try different jobs before they find the perfect one? Do you know any people who already knew exactly what they wanted to work as soon as they finished college?

Ok heres the thing... I work in a small city in a small health field. Ive heard that employers can only ask start date, end date, and would you rehire that individual. I left because of personal reasons. The former employer is prominate in the community esp. in the health field I work in. I know legally they can't slander you but they can behind closed door and you would never be able to prove it. I don't really know what to say in the interview why I left, except that I need more challenges, what if my answer doesn't match my former employers response???
One person said to call the HR managar and ask them what they are telling employers that may be calling?

Last year, I had FMLA for my father, unforunately he passed away in May. Then I called in several times because my children got sick, but no one told me anything becuase they(attendance unit) were coding my leave asFMLA, using my DEAD father's claim, and when they found out their mistake they placed me on corrective action. In other words they coded my absences FMLA even though I didn't have it, and then they went back and changed everything. Then they placed me on a final corrective action because they said I missed a day and I have proof I didn't. Then I treid to apply for FMLA but said I didn't qualify as I only had 1178 hrs. to call back in two weeks, but when I did, they would not take my application for FMLA as my hours were not updated so they didn't register that I didn't have 1250 hour for almost 1 month. During this time, I missed, but I had hrs to qualify for FMLA, and they counted days against me & denied right to apply for FMLA at least 6 times. What can I do ?
