Write up an amazing resume, and when you show up for your interview, don't over dress (but dress nice). It may sound nuts, but don't wear too much perfume or cologne (this can be overbearing). Don't use big words, and answer to the point. Look the employer in the eye when you answer questions. And, if you have questions yourself, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck pursuing your career.

Try to be the LAST one scheduled for an interview (I read this in a couple of different career advice columns). Do research on the company and come armed with facts. Be a few minutes early, have a good handshake, make eye contact, take notes, and have a list of questions ready to ask the interviewer ("what is the average day like for this position", "what soft skills does a good candidate have", "what hard skills does an ideal candidate have", why did this position become vacant" and others). The answer you want to hear for that last question is that the person was promoted. That lets you know there is upward mobility in the position you're interviewing for.

Lastly, write a hand-written thank-you note to the interviewer right after the interview, and mail it ASAP. You'd be surprised how few people do this and it's so easy.

Of course have your resume proofed and corrected beforehand, dress accordingly, and look up directions to the interview way ahead of time. Drive there the day or weekend before if you're really unsure where it is.

Good luck.

Honestly, based on my experiences on applying for jobs. I try to make the best resumes there is but I really try to be different on the way I present myself in interviews. As much as possible I try to be the most humblest person they have interviewed. I try not to sound so arrogant like someone that knows everything, that sometimes can make the interviewer feel like your dominant and Mr./Ms. Know-It-All. Try being very down to earth, be simple, dress in a right appropiate attire(business attire: suits or maybe skirts).

In short:
-Be simple
-Humble

I was able to land major jobs by doing so.

1) Make your "Objective" on your resume as specific to the job as possible. IE, dont write "To obtain a job that will utilize my organizational and educational skills." Write specifically for the job you are applying for.
2) Put "Reference" names and numbers at the bottom of your resume. If you put "Available on request" I guarantee you that your resume will not be seriously considered.
